Stop shunning divorced Catholics, Pope Francis tells his flock
Pope Francis has told Catholics to be more welcoming toward those who have divorced or remarried, saying they are “not by any means excommunicated.”
The Argentine pontiff was speaking at his first weekly general audience on Wednesday after a month-long pause from Italy’s record summer heat.
He said broken families shoulf be viewed from the point of view of the children, who often suffer the most as they feel shunned by their local parish due to their parents’ failed relationships.
“Through the eyes of young children... we see even greater the urgency of developing in our communities a real welcome towards those who are living such situations," he said....
