Incandescent Bulbs Return to the Cutting Edge
SANTA ROSA, Calif. ‚ÄĒ When Congress passed a new energy law two years ago, obituaries were written for the incandescent light bulb. The law set tough efficiency standards, due to take effect in 2012, that no traditional incandescent bulb on the market could meet, and a century-old technology that helped create the modern world seemed to be doomed.

But as it turns out, the obituaries were premature.

Researchers across the country have been racing to breathe new life into Thomas Edison’s light bulb, a pursuit that accelerated with the new legislation. Amid that footrace, one company is already marketing limited quantities of incandescent bulbs that meet the 2012 standard, and researchers are promising a wave of innovative products in the next few years. ...

Faithful Remnant, yes, most of those eco-bulbs including made with major brand names, if you put them in an enclosed lamp shade, will burn out quickly, and thus be less eco-friendly and much more expensive than an incandescent bulb.

Matthew 5

14Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house. 16Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

The above has really nothing to do with electric lighting at all!

Today's reading is such a blessing to the soul that has come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, who gives LIFE.

As for the light bulbs, I prefer the old style, because they get hot and warm up the caravan.

I had one of those energy efficient incandescent look-alikes and it malfunctioned, smoking and making hazardous cloud of something(mercury probably)...I suppose it would have burned the place down if I didn't notice it.

I guess we can all thank al gore for this stupid law. Good thing I stockpiled incandescent bulbs 2 years ago.

Faithful Remnant,
I agree with you, incandescent is much better for reading.

Right, Mike. Doesn't make much sense, really.

"‚ÄúThere‚Äôs a massive misperception that incandescents are going away quickly,‚ÄĚ said Chris Calwell, a researcher with Ecos Consulting who studies the bulb market"

Let there be light!
