NT scholar on discovery of giant trove of Bible manuscripts
Each year, only two or three New Testament manuscripts handwritten in the original Greek format are discovered. But a U.S. expedition last year to the former communist country of Albania led to the discovery of 47 New Testament manuscripts, and at least 17 of them unknown to Western scholars.

Dr Daniel B. Wallace, the director of the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts (CSNTM) in Frisco, Texas, spoke to Christian Today this month about his center’s major discovery, the importance of using state-of-the-art digital photography to preserve the documents, and why hundreds-of-years old manuscripts are important to the average modern-day Christian. ...

TGH, It is the ASV, you are talking about that came out in 1901, These folks seem to want to use RV for the English Revision, anyway,
Daniel B. Wallace wrote:
# The ASV was significantly better English than the RV. But it was still quite stilted. It is the most literal translation ever done in English that qualifies as passable English.
# Like the RV, this translation was a revision of the KJ—the sixth revision.
# The ASV was immediately recognized as vastly superior to the RV. It became a great study Bible, though it is now outdated by new discoveries.
from, ]]Part IV: Why So Many Versions?

The NASB, started out using "Thee, Thine, and Thou" etc. in poetic sections of the Bible, They got rid of those in later versions, and modernized the English in other parts also, not necessary, as far as I'm concerned.

Needless to say this site is quite slanted towards the NET Bible, but that isn't bad.

I see the highly accurate NASB mentioned. Are we talking about the 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975,1977, 1995 update? That is just to mention a few of the list. We might even be talking about the 1901 RSV. They seem to have a problem getting it right.

FYI: verses for which textual variants are mentioned in KJV footnotes:
1 Chron. 17, Matt. 26:26, Luke 10:22, Luke 17:36, Acts 13:18, Acts 25:6, Eph. 6:9, Jas. 2:18. The whole latter half of 1 John 2:23 is in italics, suggesting it was deemed questionable by the Translators.

These are all in my old Zondervan KJV, which has footnotes that cannot be modern (spelling, grammar, monetary units, etc.)

Wow, I see anti-intellectualism is on the rise as well. I just wonder how many who are bashing Mr. Wallace have taken NT Greek or studied textual criticism? My guess is they haven't and are slandering one of God's faithful servants.

Well, as I have said, one should read a Bible even one as antiquated and inaccurate as the AV, because at least its errors have no effect on correct theology.

Respected men, such as John MacArthur, ]]The Biblical Position on The KJV Controversy and James White (a series of articles here) ]]The King James Only Movement are interesting reading, even if fervent traditionalists will still hold fast to their traditions. Again, get an accurate version of the Bible, NASB, or at least a KJV Ryrie Study Bible. Well, unless your an expert in 17th century English.

Amen, Brothern Don, you're Right in saying that Wallace is confused & that devils/demons are using his work to overthrow the faith of some.

This "textual(higher)criticism" thing is just another open forum for The Satanic-Vatican; yea, for the religious devils/demons of The Satanic-Vatican/Roman-"Catholic"-Cult of Popish "Jesuit" Vaticanism to undermine the ORIGINAL AUTOGRAPHS OF THE APOSTLES as Faithfully Preserved & Translated in The Majority/Byzantine-Greek/Eastern/Textus-Receptus based KJV of THE AUTHORIZED HOLY BIBLE !

This is what separates the Vaticanus/Sinaticus NASB-NIV-Per-version boys from the Byzantine/Textus-Receptus KJV-AUTHORIZED-HOLY-BIBLE Men !

In which age of apostate scholarship was the concept of a "Laodicean age" invented?

Who knows what version of the TR is the correct one? Are there not greater than 15 versions?

The King James translators would have welcomed this, Anyway,

Daniel B. Wallace wrote:
First, I want to affirm with all evangelical Christians that the Bible is the Word of God, inerrant, inspired, and our final authority for faith and life. However, nowhere in the Bible am I told that only one translation of it is the correct one. Nowhere am I told that the King James Bible is the best or only ‘holy’ Bible. There is no verse that tells me how God will preserve his word, so I can have no scriptural warrant for arguing that the King James has exclusive rights to the throne. The arguments must proceed on other bases.

Thy word is settled - the Greek as proved by Ivan Panin. We do not need any other copys as the Scripture is numerically sealed. The KJV is not inspired, but it is a very good translation to begin to understand the Scripture

It's the original Greek *language*, not "format."

The Pericope de Adultera (John 8:3ff) is mentioned as missing from some of these manuscripts or placed elsewhere in others, so this sounds like nothing new in textual criticism.
