Media Coverage of Mall Shooting Fails to Reveal Mall's Gun-Free-Zone Status
The horrible tragedy at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Neb. received a lot of attention Wednesday and Thursday. It should have. Eight people were killed, and five were wounded.
A Google news search using the phrase "Omaha Mall Shooting" finds an incredible 2,794 news stories worldwide for the last day. From India and Taiwan to Britain and Austria, there are probably few people in the world who haven’t heard about this tragedy.
But despite the massive news coverage, none of the media coverage, at least by 10 a.m. Thursday, mentioned this central fact: Yet another attack occurred in a gun-free zone.
Surely, with all the reporters who appear at these crime scenes and seemingly interview virtually everyone there, why didn’t one simply mention the signs that ban guns from the premises?...
While I certainly can't disagree with the article or it's aim - pointing out the bias of the mainstream news media (and they not mentioning the truth that equal force and equal threat will save more lives) when it comes to arming ourselves with guns. When are we going to stop looking to the media to post out these things? Do what I have done and put up a media site yourself (www.UncleRaisin.com) or stand out on a sidewalk with a big sign that says what the media won't say. Maybe you can print up a simple reference article and hand it out at a busy intersection. Whatever you do, stop complaining and get busy yourself.

It seems to me that Utah had a similar incidence, but at least they put that surly dog down. I hope that the folks in Omaha and Lincoln, and other towns in Nebraska will look into this. I really don't want to see Omaha, Nebraska showing up on A(ustralian) BC and BBC news for this type of reason. Congratulations news readers in both countries, you pronounced both locations correctly.
