The Rev. D. James Kennedy, known worldwide for his television and radio sermons, his conservative politics and evangelization efforts, is stepping down as minister of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, a church he founded in 1959 and built into a mega-church with nearly 10,000 members.
Kennedy, 76, had a heart attack in late December and has been in poor health since then. His daughter, Jennifer Kennedy Cassidy, announced on Sunday in her father's church that he was stepping down.
"For so many years, Jim Kennedy was always on the front line," said Penney. "But so many people misunderstood him."
