So many claim to be Christian, yet so few actually are. It is in the time of testing you will see who is willing to step out on faith, and who isn't. Look at the millions of Jews murdered through the ages, where were the Christians then? The true believers did take action, and they prayed diligently for those who suffered and died. As for Mr. Wright, he is preaching a doctrine contrary to the gospel. His words are emotionally charged and have stirred up the wrong kind of reaction from everyone. His skin color is irrelevant;he seems to be fired up over the corruption of a crooked and perverse generation. If he belonged to Christ, he would handle these issues biblically. Let us never forget our most prized weapon of defense, the sword of the Spirit, the word of God. This man doesn't produce fruit in keeping with repentance.
Wayne, do you know Obama's stance on same sex marriage? On abortion? Why do you defend a man who opposes God's word? Remember the words of Christ, "Whoever does not hate his father or mother, sister or brother, etc. is not worthy of me." Let's defend God's word, not race.

this is exactly why we need to preach the whole counsel of God. This view is lopsided, and many claim it, 'God is love'. Sure He is, but there is also a penalty for sin. This is not a popular message in our man-centered culture. The time is here that men will not put up with sound doctrine, however, we are to proclaim the good news whether in season or out. Let us all pray for boldness, and give God's awesome truth to this dark world {and it is getting darker with each passing day}, our hearts filled with compassion for those all around us who are being deceived by this ever-growing deception. The one world church is unfolding, and this kind of garbage is the basis of their foundational beliefs. Maranatha!

nl- you are saying lost sinners should seek Christ...but they do not...until God gets their attention. When we are humbled by God, then we seek Him. The whole point is this, no one seeks God {Romans 3:11}, His word says so. To say different is to call God a liar. God draws us {John 6:44}, then we seek Him. What caused you to seek Christ? What made you aware of sin in your life? Again, no lost sinner says, 'this is a good day to seek God'. God must start the process first; to say otherwise is to call God a liar {'none seek God'-Romans 3:11 and boast that you got the ball rolling. Salvation is a gift, not of works, that no one should boast...{Ephesians 2:8-9}

YES, we should seek Him, and strive to enter through the narrow gate, as believers, we do this. As a lost sinner, we do not seek God, we run the other way because of our wicked, rebellious hearts. I am not sure of your point; I agree we should seek the Lord, and as believers we do. This is an ongoing, continual process for all who are born again. Did you seek the Lord when you lived in sin? Did you inquire of Him when you were sinning against Him? If you did, you are a rarity. From my own personal experience, I avoided the bible, church, and Christians; until the Lord drew me and humbled me, I never wanted anything to do with Christ. It is at His drawing that we seek, not on our own 'whim'. When He draws, we seek, it is simultaneous.

nl. again, you are not reading what God has written, the bible says 'none seek God'; until He draws us, we rebel. It is when He draws and humbles that produces seeking. Without His doing so, we are not able to seek Him. The ten virgins pertain to believers, half of which are truly born again, and the other half think they have salvation, but they've never repented and received Christ, they do not have the Holy Spirit living in their hearts. The oil represents the anointing, the Holy Spirit. We cannot 'work' for this, it is given in the new birth. Christ is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. The rich young ruler went away because he refused to give up his wealth and follow Christ. God produces the works we do, not us. Again, read what God has given, Romans 3:11, John 6:44; these passages contradict your claim we must work continually to seek the Lord for His salvation. Lost sinners cannot seek a God they rebel against until He has made the FIRST MOVE!!! He draws, and humbles, THEN we seek. Please do not rob God of the glory due Him by trying to take credit for His salvation plan.

nl, one more thing, then we must close this out because we are getting away from the article content. Romans 3:11 says this, "There is none who understands, there is NONE who seeks after God. vs.12- They have ALL turned aside, they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one."
God's word makes it plain, we do not seek God until He intervenes in our lives.

so you believe in salvation by works, God can't move until you do!!! That contradicts Eph. 2:8-9. How did you come to Christ? What drew you to Him? Since the bible says we are born sinners, how can we seek a God we rebel against? If God did not draw us, we would not seek Him, that is what scripture teaches. Where does it say in scripture 'the quality of seeking will improve and go further when the grace of God is operating to draw us to Him'? I am not denying the fact that we should seek Him, I am saying that we cannot seek Him unless He first draws us.."No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him" John 6:44. I don't find in His word where He draws out this seeking process.

nl. we seek God ONLY after He has drawn us to Him, and broken our prideful hearts. I did not wake up one morning and say, 'I think today is a good day to seek the Lord'. I came to Christ after God broke my spirit, and humbled me. Without God's intervention, I would never have sought Him.

Lance, your comment, 'well yes, but not without a little bit of cooperation on our part' raises a red flag. God draws {John 6:44}, then humbles {Psalm 51:17}, which produces Godly sorrow {2 Corinthians 7:10}and leads to repentance {Luke 13}. This brings forth the new birth {John 3:3} in which God changes hearts and minds {Ezekiel 11:19}. We are given His Holy Spirit {Acts 2:38}. No where in the biblical salvation do I find where God needs me to help Him along. Salvation by works is no salvation and will save no one, Christ emptied Himself on the cross, and that was enough. We are saved by grace {Ephesians 2:8-9}. We partake in the Lord's supper in remembrance of Him, not as a means of salvation. All who follow man-made teachings over the word of God will perish. "You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men." Mark 7:8

Lance, the suffering isn't the message of the cross, it was the fact that Christ died, that's the atoning message of the cross. Every born-again believer will suffer because of allegiance to Christ, scriptures forewarns of such. God demanded a sinless sacrifice for the sins of man, and Christ willingly obeyed. In order for sin to be forgiven, there had to have been bloodshed and loss of life, that is the message of the cross. He has risen, and all who belong to Him will also be resurrected, praise God!!

kenny, excellent post, perhaps a better choice of words would be one we find in scripture, 'We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God' {2 Cor. 5:20} to be reconciled means to 'return to favor with, to receive one into favor'. Let's remember, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, therefore, God loved us even when we didn't love Him. So God desires for us to be reconciled to Him, to have favor with Him, not to be in a 'lovey dovey' relationship. When we stick with His word, then we get the proper understanding of who He is and what it is He wants and desires.

Neil, I was referring to the mainstream media when I brought out Wright's not preaching God's word. Not that I expected CNN to bring it up; I thought Fox might. I think EVERYONE is putting too much emphasis on his statements, and not enough emphasis on his lack of qualifications to be a preacher. His church and it's followers are not the least bit concerned with upholding the word of God; which would mean Obama more than likely is not concerned either {again, neither is Clinton or McCain}. The emphasis of Christians should be on prayer, asking for God to bring this nation back to Him; and professing the gospel.

I am amazed no one has mentioned the fact this so called 'preacher' is not preaching God's word. He is using his position as a political soap-box to vent his racist anger. This is not biblical, nor are his sermons. Mr. Wright is in need of much prayer, he does not know the Jesus Christ of the bible. He needs to read the biblical teaching from Christ in Matt. 5:21-26. He also needs to heed the warning of Paul from Galatians 1:9, "As we have said before, and now I say again; If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed."
Sadly, both Obama and Clinton have views that oppose God's word concerning abortion and homosexuality. Unfortunately, McCain is no prize either. We need to drop to our knees and pray for this nation, and we need to do this often.

America has been blessed by God, and is by far a better choice than most other nations, but Christians have lost sight of the real battle. We must boldly profess the gospel, in love, to a lost and dying world. Only God knows if we are nearing the end of the age; it certainly appears to be so...nevertheless, we have work to do. I don't complain about this country, I pray for it. Even with the upcoming election, we seem to have no real choice. God has abandoned a nation that continues to turn her back on Him. There is a dire need for Christians to unite, pray, and proclaim God's truth from sea to shining sea. We must live a life worthy of the calling we have received to make a difference, and many are not. Let us pray for a revival - starting with each one of us, and spilling out into those around us.

I must say taking pride in a nation that is corrupt, from the government on down, does not make sense. America is filled with greed, selfishness, arrogance; rejecting God in every way. We must stand firm in the faith, defending God's word, and not get caught up in defending a wicked nation. Let's not live on past glory, whatever blessings we had are evaporating. Yes, this is sad, but true.

May I add that those who adhere to church doctrine over God's authoritative word are guilty of great sin. We should NEVER add to or take away from God's word {Deut. 4:2, "You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you"}. I do not find these 'new sins' listed in God's word anywhere. No one can create 'new sin',for there is nothing new under the sun.
Those who put church doctrine first must repent of their sins. If what is preached from pulpits everywhere cannot be backed with scripture, then do not follow it! Search the scriptures daily, and pray for God to save you. Without His saving grace drawing you to Christ and humbling you in Godly sorrow {2 Cor. 7:10}, you are still lost in sin. This is sound advice from J.C. Ryle, 'Let us beware of any teaching in which the main thing is an incessant exaltation of the church, the ministry, or the sacraments, while such grand verities as repentance, faith, conversion, holiness, are comparatively left in a subordinate and inferior place.'

John, I mean no disrespect, but if you believe an altar call means the truth is being preached, you are incorrect. Have you seen the video of this pastor on youtube? It was also on The O'Reilly Factor, and Glenn Beck. This pastor spews out hate, for America and for whites. Google this man's name and watch for yourself! If Obama defends what God's word opposes, that is a sin. Clarity and discernment on what God is for and against are found in His word, and by praying first before reading, you will gain understanding {if you have repented of your sins and been born again}. There are many deceptive churches who 'appear Christian' on the outside, they even use some scripture to fool people, but they do not preach the whole counsel of God. We live in a time of great apostasy and deception, which is another reason why those of us who belong to Christ must meditate upon His word. I pray you do this. Read Leviticus 18:22, or 1st Corinthians 6:9-10 concerning homosexuality.

John, May I ask you a question? If you are truly born again, why would you want to attend a church that does not teach the truth? Fellowship with true believers is essential in our growing process. Granted, there are 'bad seeds' in every denomination, and salvation is not based on loyalty to any certain denomination. In my own personal experience; when God saved me, He then moved me out of the Lutheran church and into a Baptist church, not because Baptists are superior, but because the pastor of the church preaches the whole counsel of God's truth. By God's doing, I desire to feed my spirit, and my old church was nothing but rituals and empty worship. Everyone had the warm fuzzies after Sunday morning service, but inside I was starving to death. This was God's prompting me to go elsewhere.
Truly, the Lord will lead you if you seek Him on this matter. Everything happens by His timing for our good and His glory, God bless you as you walk with Christ!

Let us not forget the need for humility when discussing God's word. We may differ on various subjects in the word, but to use sarcasm and borderline hatefulness is to sin against God. No one should cover up or try and justify his/her sarcasm with the argument that they are presenting God's truth. Let's all step back and pray, asking for God to search hearts and minds; then be willing to confess and repent whatever is brought forth. Some seem bent on being right, no matter what the cost. This is not proper for God's holy people. Head knowledge without heart involvement is not pleasing to God, and does not glorify Him.
