This is great news! Being a Fundamental Baptist, it always pleases me to be reminded that those who tried to destroy the Church are dead. But God is bigger than John Calvin, and his Church is still alive, just as he said it would be.

Remember it was Martin Luther who said "The Anabaptists should be exercised with the sword"

I love the Holy Spirit discernment these men had.

I'm sure the same spirit that told them Baptists of their day should be murdered is the same spirit that revealed the Doctrines of predestination.

And don't bring up Spurgeon! He was a good man, but he was misguided.

Biblicist...keep it up. I have enjoyed reading your posts.

A Democratic Conservative - TOTALLY OUT OF CONTEXT!

And, there is no mention of Matthias after that event, so was God really in the casting of lots? - NO! It is Paul who is numbered among the 12, not Matthias. And furthermore, the Holy Spirit guides into all truth, which leaves no place for Jewish customs, or the world's attempt at making a decision ( I know, I know, your friend prayed first. But God is a Spirit, and he speaks to his own). God's Word is plain; if blood is shed, blood is required, otherwise the land is defiled.

And to the intelligent one who reminded us that Bush didn't stop abortion and such - you need to learn your government. He can't just make an edict. But what Bush did do is not carry the issues to push them further. And he did come out against cloning, and embryonic stem cell research.

Some of you people are truly amazing!

HOW ON EARTH can a true believer not know who to vote for...a baby murderer? SICK!! God will judge you!

The result of this election is the fault of the Church - end of story!

You have some very valid points, and I do not totally disagree with you. But there is one thing to consider - the sovereign working of God in a nation that is falling into apostasy.

There are time when MEN refuse to lead, and the natural product of that is a Woman, right or wrong, who will take up leadership out of necessity. Although there are those women who crave leadership, I think they are fewer than we think, and I am not speaking of them.

Because men refuse to lead, which is a natural tendency, God will allow a woman to be in his position, like Deborah. Deborah was not God's first and desired choice, but it was because men were not leading. And it is God's last ditch effort to get a country to repent when he allows a woman to be in charge. I am against women outside of the home if there are children. And ultimately it is up to her head - her husband, weather or not he lets her take responsibilities away from home. But there is a bigger thing going on here in America. Women in leadership is not the issue. America repenting is! It is God's mercy that he will let a woman lead, because the alternative is total judgment. And men need to wake up and get back to leading their homes!!!

Actually, when God allowed women to be in authority, i.e. Deborah, it was because the men were not leading, and it was only God's grace that he then placed a woman in leadership. If Palin does get in, it may the end of the line in God's grace on America.

"wots a WCC???"

What's a "wots"?

My mistake, I meant WCF...thank you for pointing that out, I wouldn't have even caught it.

There is Hope: Thank you. And I agree with your name! There is Hope, and it's not in the Pope, nor his runaways - The Reformed Calvinists. Jesus Only!!! He is the light of the world that "lighteth EVERY man that cometh into the world", not faith.

Keep up the fight!

Neil said:
On the contrary, unless one is a prophet, one needs to seek a dictionary to understand archaic English words; how many modern readers outside Yorkshire know that "kine" means a cow? Or consider "conversation," which now means oral discussion, whereas in the KJV, or even in Jane Austen, it means "general course of conduct; behavior." Scholars have long known that even ordinary words change meaning over time. As a user of the KJV myself, it is even more important to have an interlinear or similar tool as a companion for it.

Neil, you have just proven your laziness and the laziness of the American culture. What is so wrong with doing some homework?

And, contrary to popular opinion, it is the Holy Spirit that leads us into all truth. So, even if the Bible was in modern English, or Ebonics for that matter, the unbeliever wouldn't understand it.

And, how did you know what a "kine" was? Did you look it up, or hear someone tell you what it was?

You people are incredible. I haven't been on this site for some time now, and when I do come back, it's the same old thing...the WCC.

Let me visualize Eph. 2:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of Works, lest any man should boast.

"through faith" is a prepositional phrase - you can't argue this!
Which means it's not the subject.

Salvation is the gift, and grace is the reason for the gift.

Now, suppose someone said "In that house is a gift for you, but the only way in is through one specific window."

Now, if you went through that window, would you automatically have the gift? Obviously the window passage isn't the gift, but merely access to it. And according to Hebrews, it is possible to taste and see, but never possess.

Faith may be a gift (which I don't readily agree), but in this passage it can not be the gift. Find another verse to use, but this one won't work.

I know most will reject this, but not because I am wrong, but because it weakens the WCC and your position.

Hold the phone Jim...the Texas school board had better make some changes to Shakespeare's works so these kids can understand the outdated words!!

So how were English speaking Christians led before the AV?

And the couple hundred years or so after the AV until a new version came along, how did believers manage to serve God with a book that has over 7000 errors?

You all who love your other versions really need to thank the addition of copyrights to the constitution. If there wasn't the protection to make millions on these books, you might not have had as many of these to swoon over.

And you that live outside of the US need to thank capitalism for your new versions.

Money, money, money...

" The KJV is just too lewd, to be used in schools or in other places as Noah Webster said in 1833,"

Give me a break Jim. his has got to be the worst argument on this post.

Do you tell me you never go to or watch movies...or TV.
Did you know 18 years ago I had to read "Of Mice and Men" in the public schools. It is full of filth.

It's interesting that some of the greatest revivals in this World were before modern versions. And tell me where the revivals are today - or in the last 50 years?

And if the KJV isn't good, what on earth did God do with his Word for the 1600 years or so preceding it. And the six other translations before the KJV were written from the same text. So those can't be included.

Have you noticed that new versions have one common factor: Question the Bible. Isn't that what Satan got Eve to do?

The same as in the New Testament - Obedience to the voice of God...which can only be by faith.

In the NT - The Father said "This is by beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, hear him."

And Jesus said "Ye must be born again"

It's still obedience to the voice of God!!

Why is it that all version have one common enemy, if I may use such a word?

It seems as if all new versions are out to proclaim their superiority over the KJV. And among all the new versions supposedly taken from the best manuscripts, there is some pretty wide variations with large doctrinal issues.

Please remember Satan hates the Word of God. And the old serpent is a great imitator. Are some really naive enough to think that Satan doesn't have his bibles out there to water down THE Word of God?

Sorry to take this to a spiritual level

Once again...MurrayA, what are your credentials? You sound rather educated.

Uh Amanda - yes it is more obscene. Usually people don't get addicted to war, like a pornography addiction. And, the sin of fornication is a sin against your own body, which is the most destructive sin there is.

And, if you are referring to the USA and their greed for wealth and power, please remember that if America wanted to own this planet, we could have already!!! If it weren't for the USA, there would be no France, or England, or Israel. And Russia and Germany would still be out to overtake the world...like Islam is doing in this generation.

God has allowed governments to go to war, just like he told Israel to many times.

Murray - after your rant about the superiority of the British/Australian English, I am quite surprised you use such new versions of the Bible that degrade and water-down the King's English.

Am I mistaken?

Again, the oldest manuscript doesn't make it the most accurate one.

GG:
I will have to look up the quote you gave. But to the question you gave concerning the Reformation, I would partly agree. My conclusion is, though, that the Baptist church (though not always called by that name) was long before Rome. Actually, Luther could have joined the Anabaptists is Germany, but would not be baptized...so hence you have the reformed churches.

What are your credentials, if I may ask?

There are even those of the Reformed Theology, who are highly educated (such as D. James Kennedy & R.C Sproul) who I have never heard use anything but the King James.

Admittedly, I have no great credentials. But the ones who do I believe are trustworthy.

And from what I am told, the amount of manuscripts doesn't prove that they are the most accurate. Some have said that the manuscripts that we have more of are due to the fact that they were not widely accepted, and not used. Similarly, those that were accepted were used more, and wore out quicker. And this is why there would be less of them - not because they were less accurate.

Makes sense to me...what do you think?

It's very interesting to me that Rome, having not begun until about 325 AD, claims to be the true Church. So, let me get this straight; when Jesus began HIS church, and up until the time of 325 AD, there was no church on this planet?
This is patently false1!

Although, I think the Reformers take the same line. They just can't accept the fact that the Church has been in existence before they left their Mother.

So, what are the characteristics of the Church Jesus started? And in what groups were these evident, who were meeting long before Constantine came along?

This should liven things up a bit
