Rufus - Yahweh is the transliterated spelling of the Hebrew Proper name that God told to Abraham (YHWH). This name was incorrectly transliterated to Jehovah centuries ago; so Jehovah is Yahweh.

That said Baal and Asherah were the male and female false deities of the Canaanites. As it is clear in the old testament many Israelites were led astray and worshiped them. And we know as well that idols were put in God's holy temple - that doesn't make any of them his wife.

We know that only the Church is the Bride of Christ.

In most cases that I have seen, a 'mixed' religion marriage means that one or often both of the people aren't really religious. I would imagine that's the case here.

Prayer theory and technique! Why I guess I did have enough faith I just didn't know the proper theory to get that fancy car and house and millions of dollars of blessings.

Will God really not answer the prays of his children if they don't know proper theory? Certainly many of us need to work on our prayer life - and I agree that we can learn from our elders. But I think they are taking this a bit too far here.

"The ban is meant to bring good luck to the island as we respect the day of the Lord," he said.

I think he doesn't understand what the word 'Luck' means :-)

"Problem is that we can't or won't nullify those homosexuals who managed to get hitched prior to the ban. This will cause those who can no longer get married to feel cheated and engender continuous strife regarding this issue."

This is a big problem, and will likely open the door to an appeal. They'll say it's not fair or just to have two "classes" of people - and since the court ruled some are ok, when them more must be better.

I find a certain appeal to the articles suggestion - but this sort of thing is exactly what many who promote the homosexual agenda really want - the destruction of marriage and the family.

Why do non-religious societies promote marriage anyway (many people are sadly opting not to these days!)?

Marriage promotes the existence of families - a more stable life, and best situation to raise children. That's the rational for keeping marriage in a secular society and the reasons why there are legal advantages with taxes and inheritance.

While the above reasons are true - the foundation of Marriage is in God. It was his will that man and woman be united as one - much like the picture of Christ uniting with his bride the Church. This illustration is vulgar to the anti-religious pro-homosexual groups.

The article is brief and broad in describing Calvinism - too bad they lump everyone together (including the Mars Hill lot).

From the article:

"Skirmishes among the Southern Baptists (who have a competing non-Calvinist camp) and online "flame wars" bode badly."

So as Robert suggested, let's keep THIS discussion free of those "flames".

The PCUSA went astray from the Word of God a long time ago. If this leads to a schism that brings people back to God - I hope it happens. "Churches" that exist to promote justice and equality as their primary purpose instead of the Gospel deserve to fail.

Unfortunately in most cases these closures are the result of improper planning and/or too much debt. Unfortunately, many smaller schools borrow money for building projects - then try to raise funds to cover the debts.

Any school contingent on increasing enrollment to fund projects via tuition will be hitting very hard times - these same schools have to treat students like paying customers instead of people who are coming to learn. Almost all of these schools are also tied to federal funds - meaning that if the government decides to cut costs that they could be hurt even worse.

John,

I hope I'm not opening a can of worms.

Why? Because the doctrines of those 'denominations' go against the Bible. Christians are charged to repent and put sin behind them - so continuing to go to a church that's main focus is not to preach Christ, leaves one open to false doctrine and means that one cannot truly share in the communion of the saints.

Now if you were to ask, are there Christians in those churches, yes there are. And some are working to reform those churches, but too many sit silently - and appear to approve the false beliefs.

Why is it, that old ideas - keep being recast as new? Do people not know the ideas presented here have been around since the 19th century?

I'm no fan of tatoos but if your going to use Leviticus 19 - do so in Context.

Levticus 19:26-27

You shall not eat any flesh with the blood in it. You shall not interpret omens or tell fortunes. You shall not round off the hair on your temples or mar the edges of your beard

Isn't blood and flesh part of a Kosher diet - do Christians have to eat Kosher? Are we also to avoid cutting our hair or beards?

I do believe the OT is relevant and that all of the Bible shows the gospel.

This is nothing new for the PCUSA - they have been doing this sort of thing for nearly 100 years.

I was thinking, so much for loving your fellow Christian Brothers - but I fear too many in the PCUSA Leadership are not true bretheren.

This appears to the Neatherlands Reformed Church denomination. "Dutch Reformed" is a generic name for any of the Reformed denominations that grew out the Reformation in the Netherlands.

According to the article it appears that about 1/8 of the membership does not vaccinate - not really that huge of a number ultimately. I still don't understand the theological reasoning people use - if people have genuine health concern, I can understand and accept - but claiming the Bible speaks against vaccines is ridiculous.

If you live near any of the high voltage power lines (really big towers with heavy wires). Take a large fluorescent bulb (the long stick kind no the compact kind) and watch it light up as you stand under the wires!

If you have this happen - stay on the line to talk to a real person. Kindly tell them (talk over them if necessary) - say that you are the wrong person and to remove you from their call list. By Federal Law they must do so (can take a couple of days) - and they can re-add you if they really think you are the person after some time period ( a year I think).

1 Timothy 6:10

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils" Why does this quote almost ALWAYS get messed up? Don't people check when they write "news" articles?

The author of the article just doesn't understand - but those who don't know Christ really cannot.

Ah yes the patron saint of Lutherans :-)

Will this trend continue...

St. Calvin , St. Arminius, St. Wesley, but let's not stop there.

The Roman church is a big tent - they'll take 'em all.

St. Joseph Smith, St. Rutherford, St. L. Ron Hubbard.

Don't know about Hawkeye - but it is the former home of Henry Ford.

In his desire for a larger hard working labor force he "imported" many from the Muslim middle east - even going so far as to have mosques built. You can even hear the call to prayer five (I think) times a day in many areas.

We get quite a few home schoolers where I teach - though due to the background of the school it is understandable.

Some students are great once they get here, others need more help academically and socially. I have seen home schoolers with some of the worst penmanship!
