Could anyone explain what the last comment posted had to do with this news item?
It seems like a few posters here are using up the SA pages to carry on a personal conversation that could have been easily done via a phone call or emails between them; doesn't the fine print say 'no cross-posting'?

Could anyone explain what the last comment posted had to do with the news item?
It seems like a few posters are using up the valuable SA bandwidth carrying on personal interchanges that could have been done on a phone call or a personal visit. Just seems like a lot of rabbit trails to anyone else.

Decline in admissions? Maybe they are being too choosy about who they want to be admitted? Or is it that churches are going out of style, so few people are studying this profession.
I doubt there is a closing of veterinarian schools, since pets consume a huge amount of money in the US culture.

What language did Jesus speak when he dictated the letters to John on Patmos?
What happened to the churches mentioned in the last book of the Bible? Did they become the denominations we know of today? If they disappeared, is there something we can learn about the permanence of churches? I read that Japan was on the point of becoming an entirely Christian country due to the work of missionaries, and then the government stepped in and stopped all that. Today Japan is one of the least Christian countries in the world. A famous Hollywood director even made a movie about the few Catholics there who practice secretly.

This item is news to me, though of course I am not a regular follower of what the Pope is doing these days. I have listened to the news on the local Catholic radio station and it is usually the same--all about the plight of the immigrants. More immigrants to US means more people that could attend their churches, so that's why they keep up the steady drumbeat, just like the main Hispanic TV networks, Univision and Telemundo.

Gee, I thought all along he was a vegetarian.
In their movie about their 1934 Nuremberg rally, Triumph of the Will, it shows how they promoted all kinds of exercise and healthy eating, organic food, etc, that would have been popular today.

I have noticed many churches call their services with more modern music "Contemporary Services." Yet the word, 'contemporary' means, with the times, or current, or modern-day, as some might say.
So the music at these services should be rap, jazz, and all the other variants that are out there, if they are to be truly 'contemporary'
Of course, they rarely are, and "CCM" has come to mean 'Contemporary Christian Music" which means a certain style of music that is truly not contemporary but within its own style.
Music is such a personal thing that it is hard to get everyone to agree on just one type. Some say the hymn-writer Isaac Watts started the Beginning of the End by getting away from using the Psalms as the basis of the hymns he wrote.

Is it just Facebook or the Internet in general? For a second, I thought the article was about the moderators of the SA News articles posts. I have noticed they have had to shut down posts to certain articles when the 'fur really starts to fly'

I visited Key West, Florida, once, and the cemetery had the graves on top of the ground. They said the water table is very high--if you dig a hole, within 2 feet you will have water. Same thing with old cemeteries where blacks are buried in Miami--in fact, you can do spot them from an aerial photo online.

I remember in the Mid-Atlantic area that cemeteries were connected with local churches, especially Episcopalian.

Sweden--looks like it is officially a Lutheran country, until recently, but not as connected as Great Britain where the Prime Minister names the head of the Anglican church.

I think the previous discussion on 'legislating morality' could have benefited from the study of what happened in Nordic countries like Sweden where only one church was supported by the government.

Cremation--I have read that the entire body is not converted to ashes, but the larger bones remain as fragments. What should we do with them? Many choose to have them dispersed in the sea.

Mexico celebrates the Day of the Dead where the people gather around the graves of their loved ones; some say that makes them feel more connected to those who have left. In the US, they would say, we try to avoid any discussion of death, and even less, anything having to do with cemeteries.

I just heard a bit of history of Hong Kong from a missionary story. It said that Great Britain was given Hong Kong as part of the Treaty of Nanking that ended the Opium Wars, where the British were selling opium to the Chinese. A very ugly piece of history.
And it reminds me of how many other messes are leftover from Great Britain's foreign affairs, like Afghanistan, Syria, Israel, etc.

Let's see what happens to his ministry now! I bet there will be protests and attacks. Of course, this shows you how not tolerant certain people are!
In many areas, laws have been passed to make it illegal to offer therapy to have homosexuals change. Its considered intolerant!

One thing that is not disappearing is their real estate, located in many towns in very prime locations. When they close those locations, a lot of money will go back to the main denomination office.
I don't think they 'get it' that their stance on social issues like homosexuality might be the cause of their decline. People just figured out they don't need to pay money to a group telling them the same thing they will hear on mainstream TV all day long for free.

In the book of Acts, we discover more of how Paul dealt with the civil authorities. At first he appealed to Rome, using his rights as a Roman citizen. But those authorities shipped him from one to another, seeking a bribe. He didn't pay the bribe and was sent to Rome, where things did not turn out well for him. We do not read of him having his 'day in court' and being judged innocent, free to go.
Despite all that, he still tells Timothy that we should pray for '...kings and all those in authority..'
We definitely do not read of him telling us to take any part in the legislating. So I guess the Bottom Line--the answer to the title question is YES, Legislating morality is not in the Bible. Just show me any case in the New Testament where Christians changed any legislation.
