Thank you Wayne, for the suggestion. Appreciated the exhortation to stand firm for truth. Paul exhorted 'his son' Timothy to faith in the truth and to the stirring up the gift of God given him by the laying on of Paul's hands. The man in the video exhorted nations to courage in their stand for truth. He reminded this nation that the world looks to them. For that to continue, this nation must not only look to, but submit to God and his revealed will in Scripture. If it is the Lord's will to bring repentance and faith in Christ, to a Christ denying nation in numbers significant to affect change; it must be an act of God, for we have sinned greatly. See Phil.3:14-21

Christopher appreciated that you differentiated between the cross and (a cross) I was reading 2 Kings 17 this morning you might want to consider reading it and see that it is not without precedence in Scripture that men worship the true God in a false manner. Consider the judgment that came upon the Northern Kingdom of Israel then what happened when syncretism became the religion of choice in Samaria. Consider the fruit of it and read John 4 and study what the Jesus said to the Samaritan woman. George Hutcheson on the Gospel of John is very helpful. He is also a great blessing on some of the Minor Prophets.

If my memory serves me correctly,I think that the Bible speaks of both in a verse in the NT.I'll have to look it up myself.
I'll add to US verses Mat 26:30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

From M.Henry e-sword: "Here is the close of the solemnity with a hymn (Mat_26:30); They sang a hymn or psalm; whether the psalms which the Jews usually sang at the close of the passover-supper, which they called the great hallel, that is, Psa_113:1-9 and the five that follow it, or whether some new hymn more closely adapted to the occasion, is uncertain; I rather think the former; had it been new, John would not have omitted to record it. Note, 1. Singing of psalms is a gospel-ordinance. Christ's removing the hymn from the close of the passover to the close of the Lord's supper, plainly intimates that he intended that ordinance should continue in his church, that, as it had not its birth with the ceremonial law, so it should not die with it.

MS and Christopher,

Truly those who have come out of Rome are less likely to glibly trust in symbolism not commanded in Scripture. Though it is a great grief to observe the hardness of men's hearts as concerns the papacy and its idolatrous practices, it is harder for me to observe it among those who hold to a greater measure of truth. But none have anything that was not given to them and of such is more required. The times in which we live in certain areas of the country in particular, it is virtually impossible not to daily confront idolatry in one form or another. Rome's influence unrestrained, whether secular or pagan affects majority practices in that nation.

Mike, the Scripture defines truth and exposes heresy, not the powers that be, unless of course they are reigning in the fear of God and their authority is subject to His revealed will. Then they'd protect God's people from false teaching just as parents seek to protect their children, establishing sound teaching and rewarding that which is good and discountenancing or punishing that which is contrary to God's revealed will and therefore his people's good.
(Isa. 49:22,23)

A lot of false preachers like Osteen, for instance, won't display a cross because they think that it would be offensive in speaking to the people's need for a Savior because of their sins.
Are you saying a wooden cross is necessary to the preaching of the gospel and because a false teacher omits its use,for whatever his reason; therefore it's use is commanded in Scripture? Your verse speaks of the substance and not the symbol. Consider what great care God gave in the OT saints to command particulars in worship as types and shadows of what was to come and now that Christ is come, You think a symbol is necessary to prove Christianity? Not the message of the cross or the preaching of it alone?

Challenge accepted from past experience. I have had the privilege of having no visible representation of the concept of the cross present in the worship of God. We sang from the Psalms of David in Metre no visible crosses. If we used someone else's building all images/flags were removed from the sanctuary or covered. In one instance it was on the building. We entered into the back door and didn't use the sanctuary.

The cross was always before our 'minds eye' for what it represented in words which from the Scriptures form thoughts, giving knowledge and understanding.

I for one am not comfortable with any visible representation short of the natural creation it is not necessary and I believe introducing those things not commanded (Jim's example) of the brazen serpent was regulated for a time and purpose by God, get in time it proved a temptation.

Support having visible images in worship from Scripture of the NT's simplicity of worship,in spirit and truth. Ceremonial worship is now ceas

regarding Cain and Abel:

Psalm 50:1 A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
Psa 50:2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
Psa 50:3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
Psa 50:4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
Psa 50:5 Gather my saints together unto me; *those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.*
Psa 50:6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.

Pennned,

I know that you believe in the doctrine of original sin, and actual sin, so could you explain what you mean here by innocent?

I noticed the Scripture uses the term innocent blood frequently. What would the Scripture mean when stating that?
I also notice we are not to testify against those innocent of a false accusation, like those Jezebel used against Naboth.(1 Kings 21:13)

I was thinking on these things as I was preparing my mind to prayer and was looking for the input of others, your post seemed the appropriate place.

What makes a people weak and unable to do what is right (ie speaking for the innocent?) Do all people judge what is right and wrong alike? even in the professed Church? Why or why not?

The questions are not accusations but meant to provoke Scriptural reasoning.
I believe God reigns over all, while at the same time he has directed our steps according to our place, calling and station in regards to our love for Him superlatively and for our neighbor who lives trustfully near us.

B McC said "Because people part from different presupposed premises, and though uttering the same words, those words refer to different concepts, inferring different meanings based in a different body of belief.
It is obvious that if one does not accept the doctrine of Original Sin/Imputation of Adam's sin, Imputed righteousness or Total Depravity, not only Babel/babbling sets it, while distorting facts, but valid dialogue becomes almost impossible."

This has been a cause of grief for sometime now.

MS related that there was a certain one on SA who has 4 (did you mean5?)
lectures on Original Sin that he says is 'bad doctrine' being taught in the Church. I didn't listen, but it grieved me to read the comment. Truly these are times of great concern for the preservation of truth, concerning our duty to Christ, for He is being affronted with a flood of false teaching. Rev. 12:13-16

On the Lord's day, He helped me listening to lectures on the 5th Commandment regarding the duties of superiors to inferiors whether parents, ministers or civil leaders. There was enough to cause self examination and increase grateful, prayerful dependence on Christ for all his has done and I trust will do for His people.

Thank you.

Chap. 6 and 7 relevant to the strange twist on this thread.

Chapter 6
Of the Fall of Man, of Sin, and of the Punishment thereof
2. By this sin they fell from their original righteousness and communion with God, and so became dead in sin, and so defiled in all the faculties and parts of soul and body.
3. The being the root of all mankind, the guilt of this sin was imputed, and the same death in sin and corrupted nature conveyed, to all their posterity descending from them by ordinary generation.
5. The corruption of nature, during this life doth remain in those who are regenerated; and although it be through Christ pardoned and mortified, but yet itself and all the motions thereof are truly and properly sin.
6. Every sin both original and actual, being a transgression of the righteous law of God, and contrary there unto, doth in its own nature, bring guilt upon the sinner; whereby he is bound over to the wrath of God, the curse of the law and so made subject to death, with all miseries spiritual, temporal and eternal.

Chap. 7 Of God's Covenant with Man

My teaching this Lords day was on the 5th Commandment: Rebellion is usurpation of authority. All authority is derived from God and therefore is subject to God; otherwise the authority is from Satan, who himself usurped God's authority and so deceives men to follow his lead in usurpation. (Rev. 13:2) and with success as we see at this time.

Yet the prophet Isaiah comforts the tried people of God in Isa.49 reminding them of the Fatherly love he has for them as the King of kings and Lord of lords who visited us in the person of his Only Begotten Son. The prophet promised they would not be forgotten of their God and Father,he would again restore true religion and civil authorities that were motivated by a fatherly love that is self denying and God dependent at the appointed time.

Perfect.
That is a lie. For it is written:
Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Rom 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

I believe that Luther, as well as other faithful reformers were familiar with the book of Romans. I suggest you acquaint yourself and cease from false accusations/lies.

With so many thoughts finishing up my evening, sorrow for all those things that detract from the main things, pressed me. Led by computer suggestions to the man, from this thread to the message, yet looking to Christ as my Prophet, the focus of Paul's conversion went from debate to admiration of the Way and gratitude for free, free grace.

1Co 1:18-21 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching *to save them that believe.* http://www.sermonaudio.com/playpopup.asp?SID=9992815038520
Dr. Sinclair Ferguson - Paul's Conversion 10/29/2010

He related anger leading to violence and death as part of the fallen nature of the natural man. He spoke of Paul the ambitious man and implied that his covetousness was not of things but for power, the kind of power he witnessed at Steven's death-the power of Life. It is a relevant message for the times 2 Tim

Hello sister Mourner. I gather you disagree your mortal body is presently "In Adam".
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom 8:10 * And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.*
Rom 8:12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

When I have finished the purpose for which God has called me out of darkness into his marvelous light, my soul will immediately pass into glory (2 Cor.4;14;5:8) and my body shall rest in the dust until the resurrection. I expect to experience the abnormal wrenching of the soul from the body, in Christ, by grace, through faith the gift of God.

From the article: "Francis was elected on a mandate from his fellow cardinals to reform the Vatican's outdated bureaucracy and clean up its scandal-marred bank."

I remember reading in a book, regarding the history of the papacy, the phrase in Latin; translated 'whom they (cardinals) create they worship.' It would appear that is becoming questionable even among themselves.

@1517 Sorry, I've never been good at that,I was just saying that we are not the ones bringing them to court at such a time (persecution), rather they bring the saints. At this time the persecution is in the east, what happens next in the west eschatologically will be revealed soon enough. I listened to a message recently about Rev.12:15,16 and the flood out of the serpent's mouth was said to be that of false teaching, we in the west are more affected by such at this time. When Satan knowing his time is short and he does not extinguish the true Church with the flood he will again turn to violence.

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

How do you read Romans 13? How do you understand Christ's revelation that Christians WILL be persecuted and that we are to count it ALL JOY to suffer for his name's sake? Where in the Bible does it instruct the Christian to take the government to court?
1517,

Luke 12:9-12 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. *And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers*, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

It appears the bringing before church or state courts originates from Christ's opposers

Climate change is normal, always has been. Energy Dept. uses the phrase in place of "global warming" because that has been shown to be politics, not science. The pumpkin issue is merely another anti-freedom step in the political goal of control. Pumpkin pie, anyone?
Thanks Mike that was helpful. My pumpkins didn't make it this year, apple pie(abundance of them) for me, or butternut squash or sweet potatoe pie for substitute.

It been a great year for NY apples. My son told me a neighboring town had a problem with drunk moose ramming cars because they ate too many.
