Jim, you keep quoting that misguided wretch, Spurgeon, who was deceived into error by the traditions of men and the wiles of Satan.

Jim Lincoln wrote:
Sunrise in the East: John Huss
There is a curious sentence in this text:

"There he gave the last four groschen that he possessed to the confessor, and then took part in the processions in order to share in the proffered absolution he had purchased ."

The wording of this sentence makes it sound as though Huss paid the priest for absolution. Were that the case, the absolution would be invalid.

Don't worry, 16 Bene, I'm only interested in authentic relics.

As for the James ossuary, I doubt that many Catholics (or Protestants) ever took it seriously.

Does Joe Ratzinger think the papacy is mearly part of a tetrarchy? at the table of the Holy Covenant, a horn among equals, a corner found to be proceeding from the Oracles of God through Jesus Christ our Lord? We know that you have conducted masses in the name of Benedict the XVI, and will produce out of Gog-Magog that final dominion: we know that will not happen until God puts it in the heart of the ten kings to bring down Mystery Babylon. Until then, the harlot rules over them.
I doubt that Joe Ratzinger believes any of that.

I don't think I do either.

Calvin had the right idea. Revelation was the one book of the Bible he didn't try to write a commentary on.

Is it consistent for a servant of the Lord to denounce the R.C.C. as the very seat of the Antichrist, as Paisley has rightly done in countless sermons and articles over the years and then turn around and offer his commendation to those who practice that "faith" ? ? ?
I suppose that, with the passing of the years, he's recognized his error, and that all the bible quotes in support of that error have been nothing but wishful thinking and misinterpretations.

My, My Lance, I'm surprised you didn't use that great authority off Wikipedia,
There are more reliable sources than Wikipedia.

Regarding your Lincoln quote earlier, wasn't it Lincoln who established diplomatic relations with the Vatican?

Enough already, I'm sorry my reply came across as flippant. That was not my intention.

When I spoke of sin, I was not referring so much to grave matters like murder and adultery, but to all the minor sins that we commit all the time: impatience, unkind words, little lies, and such things.

Each one of these is a blot on the soul, and while not deserving of hell, they are all hateful in the sight of God.

But as you imply, the true believer repents of them as soon as they are committed, and it is only with God's grace that it is possible to repent of them.

"No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the Devil are; anyone who does NOT do what is right is NOT a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother" 1 John 3:9,10.
An interesting quote. I'll follow it up.

Nevertheless, there must be more to the interpretation than meets the eye, since there is obviously no one who does not continue to sin (even if in only very small ways). Maybe it's a matter of the degree to which you are born of God. Maybe it's an ideal that nobody fully reaches in this life.

Never would such a church or it's members enter heaven, read your bible Lance. Nothing sinful will enter,
I agree that the RCC is full of sinners. That's who the Church is for.

And it's true that nothing sinful will enter. Yet in your theology, people can enter heaven laden with sins.

According to Protestant teaching, as I understand it, those who believe will be covered with a cloak of righteousness, hiding all the putrid sins underneath, as though God won't notice.

Purgatory is there for a reason.

According to God's own word, the 'church', or body of Christ, is NOT the RCC, but is instead a people from every tongue, tribe, nation {Rev. 5:9}.
But that IS the RCC.

If I take my "cult" opinions elsewhere, how can you hear the truth?

It is arrogance to say that one denomination is the true Church.
Well, put it this way: there is the true church, and then there are the denominations. Strictly speaking, the RCC is not a "denomination".

I do believe that I should put up this commentary, ]]The Convenient War Against the Jews, which shows at least an ongoing dislike of Italians for the Jews, which there is little doubt that this Pope also had for them, One has to remember this Pope had other behavior which made him deserve the title, ]]"Hitler's Pope" Pius XII---Introduction. I have no doubt he wanted to protect Catholics and even more especially the priests.
Anyway, I'm not a mind reader of dead men,
I'm glad you admit to not being a mind reader, Jim.

The first article says nothing about the pope or the Vatican.

The second article relies on John Cornwell's Hitler's Pope for its information, and as I've pointed out before, Cornwell has now retracted what he wrote in that book. It's time Professor Noble removed his article from the internet.

Ah, from a source who suffered from Pope Pius XII,
Pius XII knew that, if he had intervened, the number of Jews leaving on trains would have been increased.

Look at what happened in Holland when the RCC bishops spoke up against the persecution of Jews. The Nazis stepped up their campaign.

Oh yes, I forgot. Peter signed off from Babylon in his first epistle (5:13). He wasn't in Rome after all; he must have been visiting Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

Lance, who do you follow, the pope, or Jesus Christ?
Enough already, I'm sure you know the Catholic answer to that.

I follow Jesus Christ, and therefore I follow his vicar (representative) on earth, successor to St Peter, the Rock on which Jesus founded his Church.

At the same time, I know that you do not accept that the pope is the vicar of Christ, or that he is the successor of Peter. And you probably do not even accept that Peter is the Rock.

And Democratic Conservative, don't forget the millions of chihuahuas sacrificed in Catholic churches on Sundays.
