Do you suppose they'll bring the RCC on board by suggesting their jesus-treats replace the wafer for this holiday season?
Don't think so. Chocolate is invalid matter. Jesus, the High Priest, specified bread and wine.

The pot calls the kettle black: the RCC has long exploited spirituality via guilt manipulation (indulgences). Certain itinerant Fundy missionaries do this too.
All that dreadful guilt, preventing people from fully enjoying their favorite sins.

It's so much nicer to be guilt-free.

Lyn, the role of Islam in history, and why God has allowed it to prosper, is something I sometimes think about.

Europe may be part of the answer.

In spite of the confidence Max of London has in European Protestantism, the fact is that Europe is almost completely secular and Godless. There is no way Europeans are going to pay heed to Christianity of any sort.

Islam will reintroduce God (in an imperfect form) to Europe, crushing secularism with a force that Christians would not dare to exert.

Beyond that point, Christ, through the agency of His Blessed Mother, will bring Muslims into the True Church, and Europe with them.

Just a thought.

I think what Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran actually means is that he welcomes anybody who will assist Rome in reversing and reducing a Protestant Reformed Europe.
What an extraordinary comment. Protestant Reformed Europe ceased to exist at least 60 years ago.

If this complaint gathers traction, I wouldn't be surprised if it resulted in a noticeable increase in converts to the LDS Church.

It was hardly anything new. Belief in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary goes way back. The Orthodox churches, which separated from Rome 1000 years ago, believe it too.

Lyn, the RCC teaches that Christ is the head of the Church. The pope is his vicar (representative), who ensures that Christ's teachings are faithfully preserved.

I guess that, in your church, there not being a pope, someone else, such as your pastor, fulfils this role.

Lyn, resisting temptation (for that is what I am talking about) is not a sin. Quite the opposite.

Lyn, I don't think I've said anything different from what you are saying, except that you seem to equate ‘condition’ (that is, persistent temptation) with sin.

And DJC49, I didn't say anything about being born homosexual. We have no idea why some people are same-sex attracted. This is a cross that God, for his own reasons, asks them to bear. Many throw the cross away, but some bear it willingly.

lyn wrote:
Lance~ According to the RCC catechism, homosexuality is a 'condition'{article six, section ll, the vocation to chastity, #2358}. There is NO mention of it being an abomination to the Lord, no mention of one's need to repent, it isn't treated with the severity it deserves at all. Even when the RCC priests are 'caught', biblical discipline is NOT applied.
Of course homosexuality (that is, same-sex attraction) is a condition. Persons with this condition are called to chastity, which means that, if sex with a person of the opposite sex is unthinkable, they are called to complete celibacy.

There is no need to mention homosexual acts as being an "abomination to the Lord"; they are a mortal sins, and automatically an abomination to the Lord, and they need to be repented of.

And what is the "biblical discipline" that should be applied? Stoning?

John, the Roman Catholic Church is schizophrenic on several issues, homosexuality and economics are just two.
Homosexual behavior is a mortal sin. You go to hell for it if you don't repent, no matter who you are.

That doesn't sound schizophrenic to me.

It teaches Catholics and Muslims worship the same god.
Yes, it does. But that is not the same thing as saying the Muslim Allah is the Christian God.

Muslims know that there is one God, creator of everything, and they worship him, but without knowing as much about him as Christians do.

And I don't understand this strange obsession with rejecting the child Jesus. Was he not God when he was a child?

John Yurich, if you think you know who is in hell, then you are making yourself equal to God.

You claim to be an RC, yet the RC Church forbids speculation on who is in hell.

Have you ever heard of the virtue of Hope?

Anything whose inspiration derives from Karen Armstrong is of little value -- ex-nun, believer in not much at all, and apologist for Islam.

A quote from her: "And all the great traditions are, in my view, saying the same thing in much the same way, despite their surface differences."

"So Lance are Muslims Christians?"

No.

"Are Buddhists?"

No.

"How about Mormons?"

If it comes down to "Yes or no", I think I'll have to go for "No".

"Radical Islamists?"

No again. They'd probably kill you for even suggesting it.

"Everybody is a Christian!"

Definitely not.

There is no doubt that they are Christians, but they are unfortunately also schismatics.

Do we need any more proof than this to perceive that many in the so called churches are NOT really Christian?
I think you'd need quite a lot more proof than that. You'd need to start with doctrines. How a few people misbehave would come at the bottom of the list.
