Hey John,
Thanks. San Jose being Zoar, that's funny. But, if it is anything like the biblical Zoar, it won't provide much relief. Lot wasn't there long before he realized he needed to go to where the Lord told him go to at the beginning - the mountain.
Yeah (lauging and groaning). I almost called
"the mountans" San Jose, since that's where
Lot's daughters got him drunk and seduced him
(if I remember correctly!).

Thankfully even this was all under God's control,
from which we got the Moabites, Ruth, David, and
the body prepared for Christ (Heb 10:5).

'Why Jesus is Better than Santa Claus'?

Uh...well...for one thing, JESUS is a
REAL PERSON.

Is this a trick question?

Then again, the truely reprobate would
almost certainly prefer to believe just
the opposite.

Afterall, the worst thing Santa can do
is deprive you of gifts and blessing
while Christ can send you to Hell
forever.

Love both of your answers.

DC=Sodom
SF=Gomorra

...and SAN JOSE is ZOAR!

Good point!

Where does political discretion end and outright deception begin?

I personally would LOVE to hear, and vote for, a candidate who
would and could consistently and vocally declare all abortion to
be what it is: murder.

Problem is that such a candidate would be shredded by our modern
media and culture to such an extent that he/she would never have a
chance to be elected, so he/she has to keep their cards hidden, as
it were, until elected...making it that much harder for us to
figure out where they REALLY stand.

Amen.

I've known many sets of identical twins in my lifetime
and, though identical in appearance, are often VERY
different in almost every way from each other.

I read somewhere that even if the age process could be thwarted,
average human life expectancy would still be no more than about
600 years...before some traumatic event (fire, car accident, etc.)
would kill you anyway.

Then again, I suppose that would be about 10-times normal human
lifespan, as this article seems to be promoting.

Ha ha...that's right!

My personal favorite 'ideal' physical situation
was the wall of "infinite mass", off which the
ball was to bounce with perfect elasticity to
illustrate our first exposure to the concept of
momentum back in our Freshman Physics 1A class.

Only in a later physics classes did we learn that
such a wall (of infinite mass) would ALSO have
infinite GRAVITY, from which any bouncing ball
would never be able to escape from in the first
place!

Jimmy Carter is just like Martin Luther King.

He can't see the Kingdom of God, only life
down here on earth and the overall quality,
or lack thereof.

Otherwise he'd be much more "conservative"
(as this article defines the term) and
realize salvation of souls is infinitely
more important than social justice, feeding
the poor, etc.

" Conventional Darwinian theory could not really explain why one
individual should sacrifice its own life, and its precious genes,
for the benefit of another individual, unless it could be viewed
in terms of group selection, when indi-viduals do it for the benefit
of the colony or the species. "

Isn't this rich? Whether they realize it or not, they're witnessing
a miniature reflection of the gospel (John 15:13) within their own
created universe (which even though it's fallen, is still full of
God's glory--Isaiah 6:3)...and they're still trying to explain it
away as nothing more than some mechanistic biological process.

Reminds me of all those gay men trying to find Lot's door shortly
after the angels blinded them back in Genisis 19.

' "Across all age groups, you just don't need a marriage certificate
to mean love," AOL Personals Director Keith Brengle told Reuters. '

Marriage certificates are not about "love", they are about government
certification/recognition that a marriage (joining of a man and a woman
by God) has taken place. God working through government, which he has
established to protect/support the married couple and their family, is
ultimately the one who "marries" them. Anything else is just fornication.

It sounds to me like these people who say "marriage is not needed..."
simply want to be their OWN government and their own god.

Yes. Another home run for Michael Hranek, here.

I actually found this article's title amusing from
a truely Christian and Biblical point of view.

The way the title is phrased makes it sound like
people of our present generation are so much more
wicked than those of the past that Christ has (had)
to work harder (i.e. suffer more) in order to redeem
someone NOW than He did for one of our ancestors.

Taken this way, this phrase/title actually has quite
a bit of truth to it, I think.

Don't you just *LOVE* it when governments like ours
become so increasingly huge and invasive that stuff
like this happens?

Then again, much of our government's present power
has been delegated by generations of citizens seduced
into the idea of having more and more of their tasks
and repsonsibilities done for them (i.e. educating
their kids).

I read somewhere that governments may one day be able
to remotely override our home's thermostat if they deem
we're using too much fuel and contributing more than our
share to global warming. Hope this is just a conspiracy
theory.

Interesting article, and informative too; but it trys
too hard to promote the idea that churches are somehow
accountable to the people attending them more than they
are to the God who established them in the first place.

I know of professing Christians who don't attend church,
but watch TV preachers, as if the local clergy are not
good enough and/or they don't want to interract personally
with so many other church-goers. Our church has a number
of shut-ins who are unable to attend but are still members.
--And then there are friends of mine who follow Harold Camping
who claim to find faith outside of the "church".

I suppose attending church for the wrong reasons could be
worse than not attending one at all, but I wouln't want to
be in the shoes of either.

I didn't see anything in this article regarding
effects of invitro fertilization on the population
statistics. All 3 of my nephews resulted from IVF,
while my only niece was adpoted. Short answer for
my own family's natural infertility is that my
siblings did not marry and settle down until they
became too old to conceive naturally.

Affluence of many western cultures tends to create
an environment full of many "cool" things to do
besides settling-down, which I tend to believe is
most responsible for declining or static birth rates.

By allowing, or better yet, insisting that priests be MARRIED-with-KIDS,
even before they are considered for the priesthood, I'm convinced that
the RCC could've avoided this problem altogether. I'm not Catholic so
I don't know if Pope Benedict has the power to bring about such a monumental
change like this, but it would certainly be an honorable thing for all
believers to pray about.

“ Thank you, Rev. Brown ”
Before hearing this sermon I was going to watch this movie when it came out on DVD. Now I'm not so sure it's worth the time and effort for any true believer to "drink" such a "deadly thing" as this movie, even though it won't "harm" them (Mark 16:18). For some time now our culture and movies have been calling evil good and good evil (as evidenced by movies like "Schrek", but in a much more light-hearted way than Pullman's movie/books do). I LIKE special effects and the overall creativity of movies like "The Golden Compass", but if the plotline ends up giving me too much heartburn I'll just have to get my creativity-fix elsewhere.
