Most arrogant (US) president? Have we forgotten LBJ already? He was a pretty dark-dealing-senator, too, pushing through the change in IRS rules that made it illegal for churches to speak on political issues for fear of losing their 501(c)3 status.
Well, maybe his time is growing to a close, and the cardinals are already searching for someone more conservative to take his place. That trip to South America where he got a weird crucifix gift from Pres/Dictator Correa in Ecuador, and then goes to Cuba to meet with another dictator, all that was too much for them to stand. Or maybe he has pronounced too much on global warming--is it really man-caused and what difference can we do to change something that involves the entire world. One thing I know is that he is from Argentina, and they are having runoff elections Nov. 22, so it would be nice for him to make some big pronouncements on that. Of course, if they hire the same guys who run the machines in Venezuela, the ruling party's win is guaranteed.
the first commenter's question about who owns the church bldg and real estate does make you wonder---do you know who owns the church bldg where you spend sunday mornings? how often do we 'open the hood' and look at the actual working parts of what we call 'our church'? do we even know the budget details? i think many mainline denominations work on this same model--the national denomination own all the properties, so you could say they are like a national store like T-get or H-Depot.
Well HeedHim, it looks like you're a little late to challenge Brigham Young. But I think there are some guys who ride bikes and wear white shirts with ties that might take up your challenge.
