Lewis is misunderstood by 21st century Christians at times, which is unfortunate. This article will not help in the matter unless readers think about the first letter or article in particular. Lewis doesn’t advocate that ‘true’ pagans are somehow ‘good’ in the biblical sense, but view the world as being created and guided by an external power. Plus, they understand the existence of an absoliute Right and Wrong. It reminds me of Paul while in Athens in Acts 17. The ‘religion’ and seeking answers beyond humanity was prevelant—a truly pre-Christian setting for sure.
God in Christ be wit Dr. Sproul and family. This servant of God, through his teaching, has helped my understanding of scripture and the holiness of ou Lord. Praise God for this man and ministry.
I hope Russell Moore and Beth Moore also know one of the Ten Commandments is to not bear false witness. Likewise, a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches...
John UK, It is incumbent upon us to seek fellowship with other’s of the same faith. One Christ, One faith, One baptism. We are many members, but are to function as one body with Christ our Head and word as our guide. Discernment is needed to ensure we are we equally yoked with a biblically sound congregation. I attend a church which teaches and understands the central and foundational place of scripture and seeks God’s glory. Is it perfect, no, but is committed to Christ.
I cannot wrap my mind around Christians NOT seeking high and low for a congregation or worse, not desiring to join the body for unsubstantiated reasons.
Frank and Ladybug, So what do you do? Have you sought biblical fellowship on the Lord’s day for worship? We are a body, so I find it hard to believe you refrain from corporate worship.
Ladybug, I don’t believe in infant salvation at baptism, to clarify. As for your not going to “church”, what may I ask you do on the Lord’s Day? Do you gather at home with fellow believers? Lord’s Supper? I ask because Hebrews 10:25 is clear, we are to not forsake our coming together to worship. We are a body, not just individual parts. Just wondering whether you haven’t found a biblical church or just do not believe the manner of “church” in America is biblical.
Ladybug, I understand your desire and zeal for biblical literacy and devotion. The Graham’s have said and believe some very suspect ideas. Yet, I know they believe Christ is the Lord and His is the only Way to know or come to God. Likewise, A.W.Pink was an ardent believer and concise expositor of Christ’s word, but he himself became bitter or displeased with the local church, he kept himself and family from attending on the Lord’s day toward the end of his life. That is in direct violation of scripture. Hebrews 10:25.
With that said, I firmly believe Pink was a good teacher and is a saint. I believe the Graham’s are true believers as well. Dolores isn’t a worshipper of the Graham’s as you are not a worshipper of Pink. I appreciate your zeal and courage to stand for the truth, but hope you can understand men are fallible but remain in God’s flock by grace, not according to their merits.
John UK, It seems when we give our testimonies, God allows us to hear and reflect on what He has done for us, WHILE we are sharing it with others. It becomes a dual blessing.
I’ve listened to Pastor Geoff Thomas here on SA, very good teacher indeed. Praise God for your fellowship with all.
John UK, It’s good to read your trip was edifying and reaffirming. “Not the labors of my hand Can fulfill thy law’s demands; Could my my zeal no respite know, Could my tears for ever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and thou alone.”
“The hearers taught in the Scriptures ought to test what is said by teachers and accept that which agrees with the Scriptures but reject that which is foreign.” – Basil
In relation to the conversation, I think Basil's quote can, I hope, be accepted by all involved.
