OK I have bad news for all you Hymn Singers.

The hymn "Oh come all you faithful...." apparently is an "ode" written for Bonnie Prince Charlie of the Jacobite fame.

Quote
"One of the most popular Christmas carols has a secret political code linked to the Jacobite rebellion, a Durham University professor claims.

According to head of music Bennett Zon, O Come All Ye Faithful is actually a birth ode to Bonnie Prince Charlie."

Thus does it make manifest that you should be very careful what your singing in your church!!!
So stick to Psalms, the Praise that God Himself ordained.

When you proponents of psalms only, sing the psalms are they as written in the Hebrew? Do you as many I know change the words and metre to fit modern western music ideas of music? Rarely it seems, do psalms only people sing them as written.
What music do you use? Has anyone got copies of the music as sung by the the Israelites over 2000 years ago.
A modern group "Sons of Korah" sing the psalms to modern music they have written. Is that acceptable to you?
How do you deal with all the songs recorded in scripture that are not psalms?
A lot of questions I know, but I can't see the logic behind those who say they sing only the psalms. Do they confine this new law only to the "worship" hour on Sunday or does it apply to all singing,....
"Hebrew" - No! Remember the Tower of Babel results as ordained by God Himself.

The rest of your post appears to focus on music.
Personally I don't sing in a Church which uses musical instruments.

Remember if you sing hymns written by man which do not appear in the Bible, then quite simply you use an alternative to the Bible Psalms.
Thats YOUR choice.

But what is God's response to the alternative???
Whereas we know God's response to the Word of God. He recorded it eg Psalm 119.

I am coming to prefer, and increasingly believe in, the psalms as God's ordained means of worship in song.

I can see now the great value of psalms in worship. There is not one doctrinal error in any of them, being inspired. But hymns (and I used to compose Christian songs on my guitar) can be deadly, as they are only the words of men.

Thats it John
And the Book of Psalms as with the OT, is all about our Lord Jesus too. So no need to compose new lyrics and melodies, if it's praising the Lord from the oldest Praise Book of all.

Psalm 106:1 Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?
12 Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.

I just sort of supposed that when Paul wrote to Timothy:
"Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick," that perhaps it didn't require a lot of inspiration to say Trophimus was sick.
Why Mike, thats an interesting point.

Would you agree that the "inspiration" (or expiration), in the writers, was part of the work of the Holy Spirit?

If so!

When they wrote of the more mundane events around them do you reckon they became de-inspired?
Inspired one minute - not the next!

Also are you saying that these more mundane items, can be deleted from Scripture without any effect?

God created the ink, the trees/paper,
God created the body, soul and mind with ability to read and write.
God created the lives, thoughts, experiences and circumstances of the people of the BOOK.
He created truth and the capacity of some to receive it, whilst other cant.
God spoke the Word that created creation - and that Word creates the Remnant today.

Thus GOD wrote the Book, which includes HIS own praise Book!

Mike wrote:
David was a man, PO.
Or did the LORD write: "O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure."
Or did the LORD write: "The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!"
Or did the LORD write: "Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit."
You confuse inspiration with writing.
Mike what does "PO" stand for?
Apart from Petty Officer.

"inspiration" - "writing"

Do you consider the Bible to be the Word of God? If so are you implying that the words written by the (inspired) men - was of their own conclusions, indeed of their own ideologies? What then happened to the "inspiration" - did it fail or did sin negate it? Can we believe the whole counsel of God - or just bits of it?

Ephesians 5:19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
Jessica; There are psalms and hymns in the Book of psalms. So Paul was teaching followers to use the Lord's own hymnbook.
You could take any chapter of Scripture and create lyrics and add melody to it. But the simple point I make is that God wrote the Bible and the Book of Psalms is Bible. God's authorised Praise Book. Ignore it if you will for the alternative, human compositions.

If you want to praise the Lord using HIS own Hymns ~ then they are recorded in the Bible in the Book of Psalms.

ANYTHING else is man made!!!
