So are you suggesting that RCs don't believe in the Trinity?

Sorry about that. Let's cut the list down to one essential item: The Trinity.

Oh, so much in common!

The Trinity.
The divinity of Christ.
The Mass.
The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
The seven sacraments.
The Redemption.
The Resurrection.

One could go on and on.

"...in 2007 Seattle priest Ann Holmes Redding declared that she was simultaneously an Episcopalian and a Muslim."

Wow! I haven't heard of anything like this before.

I wonder what Muslims think of it – but I'm sure I can imagine.

Lance, it was Bart mother who joined the Seventh Day Adventists first, and Bart somewhat jumped into frying pan from the fires of Popism.
He became a minister in the Seventh Adventist Church. One presumes that as a minister he knew that he was supposed to accept the writings of Ellen Gould White as on a level with Scripture. Probably something unstated made him change his mind about Adventism.

Some sad facts about him at http://www.catholic.com/thisrock/2006/0603lw.asp

all Catholics including priests should be taking the biblical test to see if they shouldn't be making a ]]Pilgrimage From Rome!
This doesn't seem to have much connection with the activities of the Brazilian government.

In any case, I hope that Bart Brewer repented of his apostasy before his death several years ago, otherwise his chances of salvation were nil.

But then, perhaps he was profoundly ignorant, and God will excuse him on those grounds. What else but "ignorant" could describe anyone who left to join the Seventh Day Adventists?

If Pope JP2 did indeed accept evolution, then, like other RCs, he was perfectly free to make up his own mind about it.

I am also free to make up my own mind about it.

This, too, is probably all mythology and allegory as far as the RCC is concerned now that they've officially jumped onto the Darwinian evolutionary Titanic.
The RCC has not officially jumped on any sort of Darwinian vehicle. The RCC has no official position on evolution. RCs are free to accept it or (as I am inclined to do) reject it.

Likewise, RCs are free to regard Genesis as a literal blow-by-blow account of creation, or to regard its language as in some way symbolic.

Whatever the case, they must believe that God created the universe, that we are all descended from a single pair of first parents, and that those first parents, through some type of disobedience, lost for themselves and their descendants many privileges that they were given, including entrance to heaven.

Whats wrong with these people cant they read the Bible.
I guess they're just following St Augustine (to whose thinking Calvin owed so much). Augustine suggested that the six "days" might represent six periods of time.

However Genesis 1 is to be interpreted, it plainly says that God created the world – and that is what is important.

If ethical norms are not facts, then they are just human inventions and not worth worrying about.

Not quite on topic, but... Universities have "ethics committees", whose task is to evaluate the "ethics" of various projects involving humans or animals. But the real task of such committees is to determine whether the particular project could result in the university getting sued.

I would say that all Natural Law is probably included in God's revealed will, though God has revealed much more that just what is in Natural Law.

We don't "learn" Natural Law, we know what is right and wrong without learning it. However, the knowledge of what is right and wrong can be obscured by our environment, and in that case only God can determine to what extent the individual is innocent or guilty of his actions.

Neil, the Natural Law is written by God on the heart of man. Regardless of his religious beliefs (or lack of them), man, through having an immortal soul and being made in the image and likeness of God, knows what is in accordance with Natural Law.

Instinct, not Natural Law, is written on the hearts of bonobos.

We also may simply follow our instincts, but when we do, the results are not conducive to social order.

Maybe to clarify, you could provide me an example of a necessary ethical inference from Natural Law.
How about this? Only sex between males and females is in accordance with Natural Law. Sex between males or between females is contrary to Natural Law.

... "Natural Law" being the way God intended things to operate when he created them.

So it seems there isn't One True Church, just a lot of slightly-less-than-true churches (but containing no tares or wheat).

When it comes to making distinctions between God's holiness and man's wickedness, we can use the following anology. There is no one in the grey area.
Fascinating! Is any human being in the white area?

John, you're right that the RCC doesn't regard you as a heretic. You're not famous enough to be known as one.

Nevertheless, a heretic is what you are. Your beliefs are a confused mixture of those bits of RC doctrine that you have decided to retain, and random bits of Protestant teaching that you have picked up along the way.
