Thank you Pastor for your kind salutation.

I do not contend with the word of God, or with your presentation; however, I do contend with some whose interpretation is without grace, and beyond what Scripture says. Those pastors who are on the SA site are Ovadall and Morecraft.

Pastor Derek Carlsen, on the other hand rightly presents what God says on the matter - no more and no less.

Sorry, I don't know how to link his message.

Thank you for your concern.

And after having saved me, and after having given you to me, Cosette, what has he done with himself? He has sacrificed himself. Behold the man. And he says to me the ingrate, to me the forgetful, to me the pitiless, to me the guilty one: Thanks! Cosette, my whole life passed at the feet of this man would be too little. That barricade, that sewer, that furnace, that cesspool,--all that he traversed for me, for thee, Cosette! He carried me away through all the deaths which he put aside before me, and accepted for himself. Every courage, every virtue, every heroism, every sanctity he possesses! "

"The night was starless and extremely dark. No doubt, in the gloom, some immense angel stood erect with wings outspread, awaiting that soul."
That's beautiful! Thanks for posting.

Instead of awarding Wall Street who created this mess and will be rewarded for it why not give 1 million dollars to each American citizen-man, woman and child--to pay off their mortgages, cars and credit card debts (which would be mandatory) for receiving the money. The added bonus would be that the banks and lending institutions would then be solvent or well on the road to being solvent. With the money left over we Americans could then pay for our children's education, maybe start a small business to employ more people to help the economy, or spend it to help the retail market. There are over 306 million citizens in America. If we each received 1 million dollars that would be only 306 million that the government would pay out. That amount sounds so much better than 700 billion--don't you think! I think everyone should email, write and call their congressman and the local newspaper to let them known the people have a better idea on how to use OUR tax money. If you agree, send this to everyone you know. At least our elected officials will know how angry we are over the mess that they have allowed to happen!
Interesting concept, except that will be 306 trillion.

Hmmm. .that's one way to look at it.

I always thought of Javert as representing the Law, ruthlessly pursuing Jean Valjean who had past offenses but now represented Grace.

When Javert died, he represented the death of the Law, and Grace won. Love overcame a multitude of sin.

Slightly different than your version, and maybe your version is closer to the truth. I'll have to think on it.

Engineer,

From the tone of your post, you sound like DJC49.

I actually identify with Jean Valjean, not for his physical strength or gender, but for his changed life brought about by forgiveness. Love and truth triumph!

I don't look at your links anymore. They just make me angry. I had a favorable image of Knox before you started with your posts.

I had to look up the definition of "ad hominem." I prefer an appeal to reason or intellect, but that should never be separated from sensitivity. That's part of the beauty of being human and not a computer spitting out information.

This "Brother" Cloud is clearly outside of orthodox protestent reformation teaching. He holds to the view that the "substance" of Christ's blood provides atonement, rather than the reformation view of the sustitionary death by the shedding of blood unto death.
The fact that Rev.D.A. Waite identifies John McAuthurs name and teaching in his church's Articles of Faith, speaks volumes about this man's divisive character.
If the blood of Jesus apart from His death on the cross, provides for atonement, then false teachers can do away with the cross.

Mormons like to say that Jesus' "sweating blood in the Garden of Gethsemane" was all that was needed.

Of course, false teachers love to do away with the cross. That is their goal. That is where Christ defeated Satan, and Satan wants to destroy that message.

Does Scripture teach that a woman's ONLY role is to stay home, serve her husband, and raise her children?

The answer is "NO". That is her primary role, but that is not her only role. So, deal with it.

Engineer,

Under Judaism, men and women worshipped separately. Jesus changed all of that, breaking down the barriers of separation. There is One Lord, One Body (not a divided subordinate body), One Spirit. .
Gal 4:23 But the son by the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.

25 Now this. . .corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.

26 But the Jerusalem above is FREE;

28 And you are children of the promise.

Gal 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love.

12 Would that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves.

13 For you were called to FREEDOM, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love SERVE ONE ANOTHER.

Pastor Joe Morecraft III devoted 89 minutes to proclaim the word of God that "all women are under the authority of all men." From only a handful of verses in the epistles, and using the O.T., he was able to establish his point of view in his message "Women Civil Magistrates?"

On the other hand, and for comparison, Pastor Morecraft spends a total of 46 minutes on the "Pursuit of Holiness." Part 2 of that series is missing. I wonder why?

Could it be that Pastor Morecraft doesn't like the Holiness of God woven throughout 66 books of the Bible, but loves Lording his "god-given" authority over women?

Pastor Joe Morecraft III has given a message on "Women Civil Magistrates." Of course, he gives Sarah Palin God's law for her life, and that is that she stay home and care for her family.

He goes further stating that "all women" and to be ruled by "all men," dismissing the 1 Pet. 3:5 where a wife is to be submissive to her "own" husband.

Mr. Morecraft goes even further to state that women should not have the right to vote, nor should they ever have had the right to vote.

Of course, he supports all of this by Old Testament scripture and the few verses of scripture in Paul's letters, picking the ones that emphasize his position. He fails to mention that "husbands and wives are called to 'submit' to one another." He also disregards that we are all "one in Christ Jesus, neither male nor female," because that does not make his point.

Mr. Morecraft does not rightly divide the word of God, but is political in nature, designed to make "his" point.

First of all, a woman born of the spirit of the Lord is submissive by nature (she has been newly created in Christ). Being submissive is an attitude of the heart, not a willful seeking of one's own pleasure. The fact that a wife takes care of her family does not preclude that she can do nothing else.

Grace is needed.

NO. . . he won't go to hell for LYING or for SODOMY. If he goes to hell, it will be because he has rejected the only source of salvation - the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

YES, there will be LIARS and SODOMITES in hell, but they will be there because they rejected GRACE. They loved their sins and would not call upon the LORD to set them free from their sins and the power thereof.

The gift of salvation is available to all who will call upon the name of the LORD.

Even as the dying Israelite in the wilderness had only to look upon the snake on the stick so that he would not die, the dying sinner has only to look to Jesus for salvation.

That is pure conjecture with nothing to substantiate it - even if it was made by John Calvin. He's a man - just a man - flawed.

Neither tree affects the eternal life of the mortal spirit, since even the spirit of the unsaved goes on to eternal punishment.
Spiritual death then becomes a theological terminology, - not an actual fact in terms of the spirit of the mortal.
To be consistent with your premise, I think you mean "immortal" spirit.

I think you are confusing the soul with the spirit. The soul would continue on to hell.

The "Spirit" of life is in Christ Jesus. Only those who are born of the Spirit will be with the Lord in heaven.

That's what it means to be born of the Spirit. We are newly created in Christ Jesus. We are alive to God.

The unregenerate are dead to the things of God. God doesn't make sense to them. They are blind as it were.

Jesus came to open the eyes of the spiritually blind. "Once I was blind, but now I can see."

Good question, Eve. I'd say it was because God was prepared for the fall of man. Just like God to know everything.

Christians should not waste their emotional energy and time on these debatable matters....too many souls out there headed for hell and thats where we should be focusing.
Amen to that! I find it disturbing that this is even up for discussion, yet SA listeners are buying into this. For consistency one would also have to subscribe to "women not cutting their hair." 1 Cor 11:15 "Women not braiding their hair, or wearing gold or pearls or costly clothing." 1 Tim 2:9 "Men condemned for wearing long hair." 1 Cor 11:14 WHERE DOES IT END?????

"O foolish Galations, who bewitched you, into following a different gospel?" "Having been delivered, are you now seeking to establish your own righteousness?" This is very grievous to the work of the Holy Spirit. Eternal rules and regulations serve no purpose towards salvation. From the heart of one "born again" springs of living water flow.

To Mrs. Sandra M. who posted regarding headcoverings on 9/21/08 on sermon preached: "Don't adhere to a system of legalism." Jesus Christ has set us free! Don't get tangled up in legalism. Muslim women wear headcoverings. Do you want to be associated with them and their false god? This is very disturbing that a pastor would advocate such.

Adam and Eve,

How did you know what death was when you were presented with the temptation to disobey? Since death had not entered creation before the curse, what would have been your perspective on "death" and its meaning?

"Spiritual death" is a metaphor for being in the domain of sin. But the spiritual life of the unsaved sinner does not die, - he goes to hell.

The disobedience brought about spiritual death, not consumption of a food item. The flesh profits nothing apart from the spiritual.

If spiritual death does not occur, then what does it mean to be "born again?"

They died spiritually at the point that they ate of the forbidden fruit. God said, "In the day that you eat, you shall surely die." So, there was an immediate death to the relationship that Adam and Eve once enjoyed with God. Physical death came later.
