RELATED . . Pope Lashes Out at Survivors as Abuse Summit is Set to Begin
ST. LOUIS (MO)
Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests

February 20, 2019
As Cardinals and Bishops from across the world gather for Pope Francis’s much-anticipated abuse summit, the tone at the start of the meeting has left survivors and advocates feeling minimized once again.

At the start of the summit, rather than lead with a message of apology, Pope Francis chose to cast aspersions instead, referring to survivors who have criticized the church as friends of the devil.”

Could there be a greater disappointment than hearing the pontiff lashing out at "accusers" as "friends, cousins and relatives of the devil" as the abuse summit opens?

Could he craft a more devastating message that would dash the hopes of victims and Catholics worldwide?

It's the oldest canard, the 'fall back' position of Catholic officials who feel pressure: Blame or shoot the messengers and attack their motives.

Blog Entry of Christa Brown of JANUARY 25, 2017 - continued -

Backward steps in 2016

Despite the decade's many gains, 2016 was a year in which that “hopeless” word often took hold in my head. Not only was there the continuing flood of clergy abuse cases with the same awful patterns of cover-ups and do-nothingness, but there were also institutional decisions that made the Baptist badlands seem even bleaker.

For starters, in 2016, the Southern Baptist Convention, this country’s largest Protestant faith group, elected a known clergy sex abuse cover-upper as its president. It was as though the cover-up of child sex crimes had rendered the pastor promotion-worthy rather than making him subject to accountability.
The Baptist General Convention of Texas, the largest statewide Baptist denominational entity, announced that it was abolishing its confidential file of abusive ministers. Though the BGCT’s public relations people spun this as a positive, survivors saw it for what it was -- a step backwards.

take heed . .
With respect to Spurgeon's comments commending RC Mystic “Madame Guyon”,
you give excuses, you make allowances, you show deference

but

With respect to John-UK, your professed “brother in Christ” who also commended RC Mystic “Madame Guyon”, you pronounce an unqualified censure

You apply one standard to C. H. Spurgeon and quite another to John-UK and not unlike the Pharisees you justify yourself in so doing.

But God is no “respecter of persons”

You call John-UK your brother in Christ, yet your harsh treatment of him proves otherwise.
Your graceless public censure and scathing denunciation of John-UK is undeservedly harsh, lacking empathy and devoid of Christian love.

Galatians 6:1
"Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted."

As I said . . I am convinced you have a personal grudge against John-UK,

your brother in Christ? ?

Let brotherly love continue

As you once said to me . .

"You’re getting nothing more from me."

Maybe the reason you (take heed) make allowances for C. H. Spurgeon who commends RC Mystic "Madame Guyon",
while pronouncing an severe censure upon John-UK for commending her is because you're a respecter of persons.

or maybe you have a personal grudge against John-UK, whom you regard as your brother in Christ?

As I said, throughout this thread, I have provided quotes from Spurgeon's sermons in which he commends Roman Catholic mystic “Madame Guyon”

here's another . .

1) “The quietists and mystics are a class of people who have a peculiar attraction for my mind; and I suppose the mention of such a name as that of Madame Guyon, who, among females, stands at the very head of the school, will awaken in many of you many sweet remembrances of times enjoyed in reading her blessed hymns, and her sweet and admirable life."

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:7 / Sermon No. 677 / From: Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Volume 12

C. H. Spurgeon had access to the writings of “Madame Guyon” . . he quoted her . . he read what she wrote . . he commended her !

Indeed C.H.Spurgeon had high thoughts for RC Mystic “Madame Guyon”, the very one he regards as a “noble Christian woman”? ?

See my post of: 2/18/19 6:04 PM at this thread for citation.

Please take note . .
These are the words of C. H. Spurgeon, the "prince of preachers"

Spurgeon had the greater light

I guess you missed this so I'll repost:

Rubbish! Spurgeon lived from 1834 to 1892.
Spurgeon was well-read and well-acquainted with the writings of the Reformers as well as the writings of Roman Catholics. He was well-informed on Romanism/Popery.

Regarding popery . . Spurgeon wrote:

You trip over yourself to excuse and absolve C. H. Spurgeon for commending RC Mystic “Madame Guyon” . . and I quote:

“Also, Spurgeon was much too generous in his assessment of many, whether RC or otherwise. It is understandable therefore that Spurgeon mischaracterised her.”

Yet you deliver a harsh censor against John-UK for doing likewise? And I quote:

1) 2/3/19 9:35 PM Take heed
“This sycophantic swooning over the departure of JUK is quite sickening. The man said he believed in a gracious salvation and justification by faith alone but then went on to recommend Billy Graham despite his ecumenism and also Guyon a RC mystic”

John-UK is rebuked for commending Roman Catholic "Madame Guyon"

while . .

C. H. Spurgeon, the "prince of preachers", whom I have quoted below,
commends Roman Catholic "Madame Guyon" and is not? ?

Maybe both John-UK & C. H. Spurgeon were deceived.

And many more Christians continue to be deceived thanks to the late Billy Graham:

Take heed and read . .
As I have already stated: 2/20/19 11:15 AM
at this thread:
I am a former Roman Catholic converted to Christ by the grace of God.

I NEVER heard of "Madame Guyon" until she was mentioned on this thread, in connection with John-UK who you allege commended her? ?

Having done extensive research since then on Roman Catholic Mystic "Madame Guyon",

along with other more notable RC Mystics, i.e., Ignatius Loyola,
author of "Spiritual Exercises",

I would NEVER commend her or her works, nor refer to her as a "noble Christian woman."

If what you say of John-UK is true,
then he like many are deceived re: Madame Guyon. If John-UK, as you say, commended Billy Graham, he has been deceived.
Along with many others at this forum who have the highest respect for him.

Where did that deception originate?
My prior posts make that abundantly clear.
Take heed and read.

One last thing . . you were quite happy to censor John-UK for allegedly commending R.C. Mystic Madame Guyon, but in the case of C. H. Spurgeon, of whom I provided quotes, wherein he commends "Madame Guyon", you excuse and absolve? ?

Maybe John-UK was "too generous in his assessment of many"!

So .. the Question still remains . .

Why then does C. H. Spurgeon commend

The policies tend to be inherently inadequate and often little more than window-dressing -- for reasons I’ll talk about below -- but ten years ago, most in Baptistland were denying even the existence of a problem.

Finally, and most importantly, over the past decade, hundreds of Baptist clergy abuse survivors have begun their own healing journeys and have realized that they are far from alone in what was done to them -- done to them not only by the sexual abuse of predatory pastors but also by the re-victimizing complicity of countless other Baptist leaders. Some of their stories have been reported in the media; most have not. But this much I know for sure: What will someday bring change to this recalcitrant faith group is not the preached platitudes of Baptist leaders but the cumulative courage of clergy abuse survivors. This is where hope resides -- in the terrible truth of survivors’ stories.

C. H. Spurgeon had direct access

to the works of "Madame Guyon", and thus

was able to quote and afford her his

highest commendation in his preaching.

Regarding Madame Guyon, RC Mystic . .

Mr. Spurgeon wrote:

"noble Christian woman"

See my post of: 2/18/19 6:04 PM at this article.

Both C. H. Spurgeon and Billy Graham have

wrought much confusion in the body of Christ

with their promotion of RC Mystics /

Mysticism.

Both men were well-instructed gospel

ministers, well-versed in the Scriptures,

and knew all too well the errors and

heresies of Roman Catholicism.

It is C. H. Spurgeon and

Billy Graham who have

brought the leaven of Roman Catholicism

into the congregation of the Lord whereby

many are infected.

Take heed and read:

Graham Center Pushing Contemplative Mysticism /

https://www.practicalbible.com/news/graham-center-pushing-contemplative-mysticism

Yet despite all that, both renown preacher

C. H. Spurgeon

and

Billy Graham, the celebrated "Evangelist"

continue to enjoy the commendation

and admiration of many professing

Christians.

The Question remains . .

Why then does C. H. Spurgeon commend her? ?

Where is his discernment? ?

It would appear that many 1) evangelical Christians in our day have high thoughts of the Roman Catholic “mystics”, thanks to men like C. H. Spurgeon, the “prince of preachers”, who has himself expressed his genuine admiration for them,

referring specifically to “Madame Guyon” as a “noble Christian woman”.

Blog Entry of Christa Brown of JANUARY 25, 2017
continued . .

I’ve been told that Baptist denominational entities have settled other abuse claims, and though it sadly seems that Baptists are still using confidentiality agreements, even with such secrecy, the spending of denominational dollars on defense will eventually have an impact. The tenacity and creativity of America’s trial lawyers will someday bring Baptists into the movement for clergy accountability..

Over the past decade, other bloggers and advocates have begun to speak out about Baptist clergy sex abuse cover-ups, and no doubt, more will follow.

Over the past decade, the world’s largest clergy abuse survivor network, SNAP, has increased outreach efforts to Baptist abuse survivors, and recently, SNAP predicted that the next “Spotlight”-style exposé would likely focus on the Southern Baptist Convention.

Over the past decade, Baptist churches themselves have begun adopting policies for dealing with clergy sex abuse. One prominent pastor estimated that, ten years ago, “probably much less than 1%” had any kind of policy at all. Now, at least some churches do.

Gains during the last 10 years
Over the past decade, there have been over 560,000 pageviews on this blog, and even more on the StopBaptistPredators.org website (which I stopped maintaining in 2012). So a whole lot of people have been made aware of this systemic problem in Baptistland, and many have seen the cruelty that resides at the heart of this faith group -- the cruelty of turning a deaf ear to those sexually savaged by clergy and of leaving children as sitting ducks for predatory pastors.

Over the past decade, many journalists have become more savvy in understanding the dynamics of clergy abuse cover-ups in Baptistland. I will always feel grateful for the few journalists who were at the forefront in chronicling Baptist clergy abuse stories, and now, the next generation’s journalists are more attuned.

Over the past decade, more attorneys have begun exploring avenues for legal accountability in Baptist abuse cases. For the first time ever, a jury verdict was handed down against a statewide Baptist denominational entity, and you can bet that we will see more of such “appropriate” rulings in the future."

The 'Stop Baptist Predators Blogspot' is run by a woman abused by a Baptist clergyman.
It was to the Baptist Clergyman that the designation of "believer" was made, although that may or may not be so. I should not have assumed he was a "believer."

Christa Brown, the Blog author informs us that she is a "survivor of Baptist clergy abuse". Baptist clergy abuse was perpetrated by Baptist clergymen on those in their flock.

It is abundantly clear that the SBC has a problem with abuse as evinced by the real time statement made by the SBC President . .

From the SA News Item / Original source: Houston Chronicle Report of 2-19-2019

"Brothers and sisters, there is a problem," current president J.D. Greear said at a speech to other SBC leaders in Nashville.

"This is not a fabricated story made up by people with a secular agenda. We've not taken reports of abuse in our churches as seriously as our gospel demands, and sometimes even worse, outright ignored or silenced victims."

"It's time we back up our words with actions."
