Rituals not only don't save, but they aren't meant to. They give comfort to those who are comforted by them. Thank you for your blessing, and may God truely reward you for your kindness and concern.

There is no problem between God and ritual. Remember the Jews, they had rituals all over the place. Where God has a problem with man's ritual is when it contradicts God's word. Some Protestants go arwy because they forget that man is a physical being, surrounded by physical things: water, fire, light, earth, wind, bread, wine, darkness. Ritual isn't always for God but to comfort men. No where is ritual condemned for being a ritual. The only acts that I "complete" are commanded for me by God. Hence, when I do them, I am being obedient. Catholic's don't believe in "OSAS", Salvation comes over time...in God's good time. God works in my heart every time he convinces me anew to reject my sinful ways and start again down the path to him. I find that I do hate my personal sins, but I still do them...to my shame. I don't read the Bible as I should, but my memory of the words that I did read...never leave me. I know for a fact that Christ has intervened in my life, in a physical way, on at least four occasions. He once spoke to me thru my conscience in the middle of my Grave-yard shift back in '94. I believe that God tells me little things every day, including but not limited to, how to perform fix-it chores around the house. Because God knows that I am dumb enough to electrocute myself.

May I accept genuine salvation from God's own hands alone and not from those who think that they know better than he. Sin is a profound fact in every organization run by man, including religion. If you think that your little flock is sinless, then you are the one needing salvation.

That's an interesting revelation SBG since the Bible was not finalized in it's list of books until the late fourth century. So, your question is which set of books...Alexandrian, Palestian, Greek, Syrian, Coptic, Mesoretic, or "a little of each".

All things work for good. And the only good that I can see from the Irish scandals and the American Priestly Scandals, at this moment anyway, is that the Catholic Church will never again be allowed to "dodge this bullet" again. The cat is out of the bad so to speak. They have to fix the problem or the layity will never contribute another dime, the media will forever "have them for breakfast" and the term "Catholic Priest" will always be synominous with "sexual deviant". There is only one way out and that's...reform...reform...reform.

MH: When "Mike-NY" said, "Anyone get the important issue here", he was speaking of the article which was purposely mis-titled by the UK "Telegraph" and, also purposely run on SA, sermon or not! Anyway, thanks for missing the reason for the discussion in order to run one of your Theological advertisements for Fundi religion.

Mike-NY: Greetings and salutations from God's country and a solidly conservative bulwart for US Sovereignity.

HR-again!: "the real shame...so called evangelical community that has wickedly embraced...Roman Catholic people..."

"Those who refuse to gather with me, shall scatter" - Jesus Christ.

Jack: Heck no Jack. The "Catholic Priest Scandal" should not stop until the last pervert lies in jail. But, Prots should not torment the good priests because of centuries of biggotry and hatred. Now, you're suppose to say: "But, there are no good priests". Shame on you!

JAT: Is God happy about sin? NO! Does God question some actions of some Clergy? PROBABLY! God is Holy and cannot countenance wrong-doing and evil.
As to my ignorance viz a vis your ignorance: Let's let God decide. God is able to show me the way to truth and to Heaven. He can even help you!

I don't believe that we've met, but I'm pleased to talk with you none the less. When Jesus told Peter that his Church would withstand the powers of Hell, that implied that the current structure would not fail him. If the Church of the 1st century would never fail Christ, how then could a 16th century upstart supercede the original? Rather, the real question should be which of the many Christian denominations is that mysterious Church of the 1st century. For me, it can only be the Roman or the Greek Churches. But, you do get extra-points for believing in Jesus whether in the true Church or not.

I would rather build my faith on Jesus Christ's words and his appointed Vicar on earth than some 16th centry "old dead white guy" and renegade heretic ex-catholic priest who got it wrong and lead millions astray. He was French too, that ought to give you pause!

Let's just look at the facts of BXVI's statement and not your various and sometimes contradictory (among yourselves at least) theology.
1-Reform the U.N. ---- Heck Yeah!
2-An authority armed with "God Centered" ethics ---- This would be a first . What's the alternative "Man Centered" ethics...we've done that perpetually to our shame.
3-"...end the current worldwide financial crisis...should "revive" damaged economies,..."disarmament, food security and peace..." ---- Good luck!
4-"...the strong must not subdue the weak..." ---- This is Christian teaching!

Your hatred and incessant envy of the RCC is the "timber in your eye". Ask the Lord to remove it. Your eye-sight will improve. Your false accusations and lies ("...millions dead"-Give me a break!) make my hind-quarters tired.

The other noise in his statement about "needing a world wide authority...with teeth", scares the heck out of me. U.S. sovereignity is not negotiable...even with the Pope. The rest of you Fundi's.....get a life!

The Pope has a member of his entourage that hears his confession. This is because Catholics believe Jesus' words: "Whose sins you shall forgive they are forgiven...". Nowhere did Jesus say: "Just tell the Man upstairs and you're good to go!"

Let me get this straight. You believe in faith alone, but faith...is "NEVER ALONE". So you don't really buy into 'faith alone' either. However, when I say 'faith formed by charity' or faith that shows itself in selfless acts...I'm wrong!!!!! Catholics aren't saved by works, but by obedience to God's commandments. Works don't justify. It reminds me of "Sola Scriptura". How many Dictionaries, Glossariaries, Commentaries, Maps, and Time Lines, does it take to make that fantasy come true? You guys can sure chase your tail with the best of them.

Actually, Catholics do believe in: "Only Christ", "Only Grace", "Only Faith (provided its formed by Charity), an "To God alone is the glory". The bible itself is against "Only Faith". Read James 2:24. So Jim is a lair.

If Catholics are cannibals then it's only because Jesus teaches cannibalism in John 6. The Romans accused the Christians, who died before Nero, of cannbalism. What Christian traits has Jim ever been accused of? He sows disunity between brothers, to be sure. Being so true to scripture as Jim alleged would have us believe, he blithly drops that Divine part of the Gospel of John out of his belief system because it doesn't fit. Who is more faithful to scripture? Catholics who use all the "inspired" books and believe what it clear states, or Jim, who agreed to drop seven books and mangles the others in his disbelief?

The Deceivers are those who image that God is so narrow, and emotionally crippled that he can only love an person of an equally narrow theology. Imagine for a minute...your father or Mother only loves you so long as you belong to their approved social network. Is this what passes for love to a Fundamentalist? Then God deliver me from that particular mental illness. Is this the true God? When even the lowest, most unworthy human being is capable so much more love and compassion than your dried up, withered version of a dysfunctional dictator-god. Give yourself a break. You don't want Catholicism, fine...at least don't settler for 'Ebenezer Scrooge' in a little, gaudy, god suite. The real God offers forgiveness, acceptance, and Freedom, so long as you love him with your: whole heart, whole mind, all your strength, and your neighbor as youself. And that's it! The rest is Phariseeical Denominational poppycock.
