The heading says: 'Most under-35s have not heard of the king james Bible'

This is no surprise.

In a part of England I was 29 when I FIRST heard that Christ was God manifested in the flesh. I never heard it preached on the street and never had even a simple gospel tract thrust into my hand...

I came to hear the message after a knock on the door and the JW's invited me to their study where they offered their own 'bible' translation asking if I believed in the trinity (What was that?). Instead I returned home and the first words from my wife: 'I was tidying the drawers and found this old unopened Bible in the drawer'

An authorised version

I read through and came to I Timothy 3: 16 and there is where the blessed Spirit did work to convince and convict my heart.

If any came to Christ through another version then praise God. BUT...what is the purpose in attacking the authorised version?

Jim Lincoln can answer to God for many of his ridiculous posts, but careful examining of conscience will keep Christian brethren from raising vile attacks on a version so continually blessed of God...even in these days of apostacy, God still chooses to draw sinners through that old version.

So why argue about it (Jim) as the AV is evidentially God's choice instrument

Well have a look at the site above.

Even if you use a modern version the above site is well worth a look and with a thankful heart to God for such a provision and rich blessing to millions

Thanks Lurker!

I listened to Ralph Ovadal: 'Heart of the Matter' ]]Here

He has an interesting look at New Calvinism and the strange clamour over converted Rap artists, particularly this 'Muzak', where Pastor Ovadal makes the correct comment that it is the butchering of the English language.
]]Calvin Rapper

I was a teenager in the Punk Rock era and wouldn't have expected an attempt at christianising that genre; rap came from the world rather than the Holy Bible...strange to see new Calvinists promoting it and loving the new version and Indie artists! So should the Bible be brought down to the rap level comprehension?

The sermon mentions a 7 year old boy in England without Christian parents wanting to read nothing but scripture, should he be given the calvinistic butcher's rap or the KJV and educated upwards? His parents took scripture information from the following church

I certainly pray that, like Lurker, it would become written on that little boys heart

taken to the place of execution, tied to the stake, strangled and burned. His last words: "Oh Lord, open the King of England's eyes."

As Jim seems to be the expert on the History of the Bible and England/Scotland...was Tyndale's prayer answered and how?

Just curious re: his answer and how it involved the King etc?

I thought Jim was the authority on Bible translations?

There was an earlier comment re: extreme charismatic Pentecostals and Mormons etc. using the KJV-seemingly to denigrate that version. Remember the watchtower Society abandoned the KJV and the Mormons supplement the KJV with their own satanic revelations. The Russellites (JW's) began when C T Russell used the KJV at a time when the KJV was THE Protestant Bible-so they had to eventually abandon it because of I Timothy 3: 16 etc.

To carry on the illusion that they remain mainstream Protestant many pentecostals hold to the KJV, even the extremists and TV evangelists

I don't know about the USA, but the ecumenical churches in the UK use a modern version (often the NIV), that must be 1000's of churches. Even with an easy to read modern version they remain blind to the Truth. To follow illogical logic, the ecumenists should really be using the KJV as they are the apostates blinded to God's revelation so must keep their adherents blinded by the old Elizabethan speak

Yet the most vocal Christ Glorifying evangelistic gospel witness in the UK is Protestantism and still using the KJV.
Check out the UK sermons on sermonaudio!
Any explanations?

Note below a Greek Christian Fellowship in the UK who like the Trinitarian Bible Society hold to the KJV being the 'most accurate' based on 'the best manuscripts', hence promoting the use of that Bible, note GREEK being their original tongue, though it isn't our own. Quote: "Extremism (KJO) is an embarrassment to those who prefer to use the Authorised Version and a stumbling block to those we wish to persuade to adopt the best English translation."

http://bethelwimbledon.com/archives/category/bible-translation
"It is the most accurate English translation based on the best manuscripts i.e. Greek Textus Receptus and Hebrew Masoretic texts. However, it is not perfect and contains a few minor errors."

http://www.westcotthort.com/faqs.html
Westcott and Hort Resource Centre has W&H quotes in context, but not all. It is the W&H theory that is the problem. The US Fundamentalist KJO'ism will have the same problems with the KJV translators...see

David Cloud and the KJV Translators.

http://www.corkfpc.com/kjvcalvinism.html
Calvinism and the KJV controversy.

let us beware of extremism on both sides! "Reliable", "accurate" and "the best" surely must be our goal!!

The Dawkins comment was tongue firmly in cheek.

".Leland Ryken, literature professor at Wheaton College and a member of the translation oversight committee of the English Standard Version, labeled the CEB's title "ironic," saying ***numerous versions have created a lack of common understanding of Scripture***.

"With the proliferation of Bibles, the public has become ***confused***," Ryken said. "There's no longer a genuine search to find an authentic Bible."

Hmm that is one from your own side- ESV member of their translation committee telling us there is a BIG problem with a multiplicity of versions? How come Scott and Jim cannot see what is so very obvious?

Recall my post the other day about ***CONFUSION*** and you have a modern translator echoing that point? With respect I would have more interest if there was a concentrated scholarly effort to provide the ONE most accurate Bible translation

We do have ONE tried and tested reliable Bible for the 21st Century as the sermons above explain...but some will never like to acknowledge that and cling to their multiversion confusion

'Christian publisher Zondervan’s 2010 catalog of Bibles (“The Book of Good Books”) runs 223 pages and includes Bibles tailored toward black children, students, spiritual seekers, women with cancer, busy dads, new moms, recovering addicts, surfers, grandmothers and camouflage enthusiasts...In the process, “the Bible loses its identity as the authoritative word of God and becomes something trivial, on par with shoes for hikers or luggage for the international set.”

]]How Many Bibles Do We Need?

Have a read of the above interesting recent news article my 'barbarian' USA brethren!

Q: Why promote a mutiplicity of versions and not ONE COMMON BIBLE VERSION for the English speaking folk? Why so difficult to have ONE common Bible version?

Prof Dawkins (yes that one!) speaking on the KJV
]]Here

We should be praying that if Dawkins is so familair with the language of the KJV that the Lord would bring some word of conviction to his heart and save this great enemy of the TRUTH.

Or does he just need a modern version

#1 This never-ending monotonous version debate, will it never end?

The real question is why did it ever begin?

Michael raises an interesting point, but who really hinders even from the beginning?

Would Satan be the author of confusion and the persuader of even good men?

Have we ever thought that there is a camp who wrongly emphasise the KJV like Ruckman and Ripplinger etc? Ever asked WHY? Ever thought that satan hates the Reformation text and therefore the KJV and works from within wrongly promoting? Ask WHY?

Then there is a camp who rejects the KJV but rather than promote a next BEST ACCURATE new English translation, they muddy the water promoting ANY 'new' modern version will do and is better than the KJV.

But that isn't true. Why would a Pastor do such IF he had really studied all the issues? Dr White=NASB, Piper=ESV etc. Even the big names do not agree.

Have a listen to: They're no Puritans! Profiles in New Calvinism

http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=1022101212210

Ask what Calvinism will be in 2 decades- the Puritans? Is satan working from within even amongst professing 'new' Calvinists?

Well done Jim...you are crowned the sermonaudio Bible scholar and expert, so we all bow to your own views

But why was Sermonaudio commenced by an AV user in the first place? You must surely glorify in God's good providence seeing it is where you spend much of your time? No NASB websites where you can find fellowship

Why are most of the sermons on sermonaudio from churches so abundantly blessed of God, yet using a version you won't even consider?

In God's providence you could always post here and see what scholarly reaction your strange posts will merit, for I have heard few brethren with views as extreme as your own even if they do not use the AV:

For any who have imbibed all the Dr James White arguments, but wish to see why other Reformed brethren disagree with him (but who are not Ruckmanites), why not view the above recently preached sermon video by a speaker from the Trinitarian Bible Society and then watch the other 4 videos

It is best to understand why brethren hold to the AV and then there is no cause for any to continually offer up an army of straw men. The above videos might even prove convincing to those who have no idea that there is a Reformed Trinitarian Bible Society with all connected holding to the doctrines of grace! View the videos first and THEN please comment, the one above is a very good start

George Whitefield had a simliar experience but...

'He told his friend John Wesley of his plan to begin "field-preaching." Wesley thought the scheme insane..

Before long, however, a scheduled execution brought it about. Whitefield’s heart had been broken by the coalminers at Kingswood, Bristol – men as violent as they were vulgar. Once the date for the hanging had been set the miners began anticipating the celebrations surrounding the entertainment. When the murder "cheated" them of their amusement by committing suicide, the miners dug up the corpse and partied around it.

They and their families were 100 percent illiterate, stuck in a degradation that defies description. Whitefield walked among them, in full clerical attire, and began speaking to them from Matthew 5: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Thoroughly despised and contemptuously shunned, these people found in Whitefield someone who loved them and therefore did not fear them. Grimy with caked-on dirt and coated in coal dust as they were, Whitefield wrote of them in his diary that as he preached he saw "the white gutters made by their tears down their black cheeks."
