Looks like someone has monkeyed with your hymnal, Ladybug. The original âRock of Agesâ doesnât contain the lines âAll could never sin erase, Thou must save, and save by grace.â Instead, it reads, âAll for sin could not atone, Thou must save, and Thou alone.â Of course the net effect is the same. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and His work of atonement, or we arenât saved at all. NO WORKS! NO WORKS! NO WORKS!
Jim Lincoln wrote (I know heâs still abed, and hasnât actually commenced his tomfoolery yet, but I thought Iâd get ahead of the game): This is all Trumpâs fault (link to article by trans lion tamer on how Trump has ruined his life and the lives of his cats). Universal healthcare would have prevented this tragedy (link to article by communist witch doctor in Chad). Some Trumpians got hairdos, too, so the lib lez has an excuse (link to article about white pig farmer in Idaho who has the audacity to go outside without a mask).
I apologize for the correct spelling, but I was in a hurry.
From Websterâs 1828 Dictionary: âRefuse: To deny a request, demand, invitation or command; to decline to do or grant what is solicited, claimed or commanded.â They refused, Mike. As Jesus told the people of Jerusalem, âI would...and ye would not.â DKH, donât you think youâre being more than a little conceited when Jesus said âIt is finishedâ and you insist on trying to make it âmore finishedâ? Do you honestly believe that âthe Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the worldâ is insufficient to take away YOUR sin, and that you must keep laying lambs of your own on the altar. Micah 6:7ââWill the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?â It seems that in your view, the answer is yes.
Ladybug wrote: No one can open the ear to hear except God.
Nevertheless, men can certainly CLOSE their ears. Zechariah 7:11ââBut they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.â Acts 7:57ââThen they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord.â
The âearly churchâ contained scads of heretics with nutty notions just like the modern church does. Ever heard of Mani? Gnosticism? Ebionites (sounds like worshippers of bowling balls)? The EC had the same hodgepodge of beliefs we see almost two millennia later. Believe the Bible. Not what Joe, Moe and Flo say about the Bible, but the BIBLE.
That eternal life you keep referring to, John, does that actually mean ETERNAL life, or is it really, as Bercot teaches, only temporary life, life that may expire at any moment if we donât live up to a certain standardâor actually an uncertain standard, since no one who denies eternal security has ever been able to describe exactly what a person must do to lose his or her salvation? Jesus had a role in the early church, didnât He? Was He just kidding when He said what He said in John 3:14-18, or do you think He really meant it? By the way, I believe in obeying Jesus, too. I donât do a very good job of it, but I sure believe in it. And I also believe that obeying Jesus wonât get me one square millimeter in heaven, and disobeying Him wonât send me to hell. Obeying and disobeying have everything to do with rewards, and not a thing to do with salvation. Obedience is, or at least ought to be, a fruit of salvation, but it isnât the root of salvation. Jesus the Rock is the only foundation. We can build eternal or temporary structures on this foundation, but âother foundation can no man lay,â and poor DKH is trying mightily to lay another one.
If I pick up three pieces of paper for a nickel, would that be work? Of course it would. And itâs work if I do it for a dollar, or for a million dollars. If I have to pick up paper to be saved, salvation is not a gift. Itâs a reward. And salvation has never been a reward.
Psalms 40:2âHe brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. Thank God when He saved me he set my feet upon a Rock, and not upon a tightrope. I praise Him that I am âkept by the power of Godâ (I Peter 1:5), and not by the power of Tim, which is no power at all. I am so glad I âhave not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities,â a high priest eager to cast me into the lake of fire if I failâcorrection, WHEN I failâto render perfect service and obedience to Him. I am everlastingly grateful that Jesus is my ONLY SaviourâIsaiah 45:22, Isaiah 43:11 and Acts 4:12âand not merely my co-savior, with me trying vainly to hold up âmyâ end of His covenant of grace. Thank God that Jesus saves, and doesnât just help save.
Q: How many liberals does it take to change a lightbulb? A: Liberals donât change lightbulbs. They picket power plants and topple transformers. Q: Whatâs the most intelligent thing a liberal ever said? A: Duh. Q: What is liberal Joe Bidenâs platform for the election? A: If he canât remember it, how do you expect me to?
