Maybe they will have to have Friday night/Saturday closing hours for all the Muslims in No-Longer-Great Britain.

What does it mean to say 'church' today? In this article, it seems to be the buildings where people meet, and the people who gather there.
But the Bible does not envision such a thing, but talks about people raising families and being the body of Christ.
In fact, it gives many guidelines and rules for families that also relate to the church. That's why I like to bring up I Timothy 5, which we could subtitle, "God's Will for the Older Christian Woman."
First, she is a widow, (even today 96 percent of all people get married), and should be taken care of by her own family. If they cannot do so, then she should be taken care of by the church, provided she meets certain 'work requirements' like doing good deeds, 'washing the feet of the saints' (which we can extend to today as doing very humble tasks). If she is younger, she should marry and raise children.
Other areas in the Bible have verses that talk about the care of widows, such as James saying real religion is to take care of widows in their distress.

I've heard that Germany has strict laws on when retail stores can open, which might explain why the Aldi stores that I have seen in my neck of the woods are frequently closed on holidays when other supermarkets are open.
Germany has those laws to 'protect the workers' from the abuse of employers who want them to work--what a strange idea!

Interesting news from Dubai. Weren't they going to host the World Cup of Soccer soon? And the average temperature will be something like 150 degrees, right?
And, by the way, do they practice "FGM" like many Muslim countries do? Why is that?

Proverbs 1:8 "Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother"

But what do we see today: parents try to find a 'good church' that has Sunday School and youth programs that their kids will like--if they are dull and boring, they will not take them there. Vacation Bible School is used as a tool to get parents into a church for this reason.
And, we see parents moving to areas where the (govt) schools are highly rated.

And this illustrates the strong 'Focus on the Family' that the Bible has, which can be seen in the chapter I cite here often, 1 Timothy 5, where we find there, 'God's Will for the Older Christian Woman.'
It is all part of a system; even James wrote that 'true religion consists of...helping the widow in her distress'

But what have we done? Isolated individuals who think they are part of the Body of Christ (the church) because they can espouse 'correct' beliefs, whether here or to someone in a coffee shop, or just to themselves while they are brushing and flossing their teeth.

Besides the verses you used, there are many other in the Bible that give guidelines with respect to families. A pastor could build a whole set of sermons based on them, and never be accused of being wrong. But people would be upset with him, especially when it comes to the verses in First Timothy Ch. 5 about "God's Will for the Older Christian Woman." In fact, he probably would not want to preach that chapter because it would upset many older Christian women in the church who are not living in accordance with this chapter, and families who are not caring for their widows.

Well said, "Dolores," though I doubt Franklin Graham rates highly in the minds of people who are not believers, and for many liberal Christians, they will dislike any negative review of the SPLC.
Morris Dees was fired from the SPLC due to a history of harrassment and 'hanky panky' that he was involved in over the years, but look it up on your favorite web search engine and you won't find anything in CNN, MSNBC, etc.
It's like the cover up they made about what a biographer of Martin Luther King Jr brought out about the FBI's report on their surveillance of him. If you read some of it, you will be sick to your stomach, esp. when you hear anyone use his name for anything praiseworthy.
Reminds you of that Bible verse from Jeremiah 17:5
Cursed is he who trusts in man.

And I thought I had commented on this story before, because something similar came up here on the News page a few weeks ago.
I pointed out that even secular people are noticing the value of the church as fellowship, which I found when I listened to the Econtalk podcast (link is in the little house symbol above this post).
Of course, we are dealing with a media that does not want to give any positive coverage of church-related activities.
Just ask yourself--does my local newspaper list any church services or have a 'religion' or faith column? A friend showed me one that even included the sermon titles.
The problem is also caused by the way Christians refer to the church--as a building you go to rather than the Body of Christ.

Yes, Frank, you have pointed out what many many churches seem to forget--God's plan is for women to be in family, and Paul's first letter to Timothy, chapter 5, talks about God's Plan for the Older Christian Woman. First, we note that she is a widow, meaning she was married at some point and her husband died. I don't see any room given for single women here, and if we think of today's society, I've read that 96 percent of people get married. Second, Paul tells Timothy that the widow's family should take care of her. If they cannot, then the church should help her, provided she has met certain 'work requirements' like doing good works, washing the feet of the saints. Younger widows should get married and raise children.
It is amazing how many problems in today's society can be solved by having these guidelines followed.

'Adriel' were you thinking of the incident in the Olive Garden where Peter struck with his sword a servant of the high priest, and Jesus told him to put away his sword, that he who wields the sword will die by the sword?
Or was it God telling King David that he was not allowed to build His Temple because his hands had shed much blood?

Certain Supreme Court Justices, and other liberals, like to talk about other countries' laws. Well, in this case, you will find it hard to find a country anywhere in the world with such a policy that the US has.
Take Japan, for instance. Here's a country in dire need of workers for all kinds of jobs, residents to live in its small towns, yet they persist in having one of the most strict immigration laws in the world. Recently, changes were proposed to those laws, to give workers a 5-yr permit, and they were faced with public opposition, especially from intellectuals. The NHK story I saw on this did not go into details of why they were opposed to it. They are a very strange people, very smart but very separate; I think they believe they are superior to any other Asian people. And very few of them are Christians; most are not religious but do follow some strange ritual practices, kinda like what baseball players do in the US (very superstitious, I don't know if a Christian could be a baseball player surrounded by such strange rituals)

Gee, let me think..aren't roofers risking their lives every day for money? And they don't even get a retirement plan if they last 25 yrs like firemen and police get.
More dangerous can be sales clerks at those small convenience stores. I've heard in some big cities, they work behind bullet-proof glass. That's a sign of how dangerous their jobs are, and they do not get a retirement plan after 25 yrs like firemen and police get.

No, I figure it will not show up on many other news outlets because it involves evangelical Christians in Mexico, who have been persecuted by the majority Catholic population for many years.
And, any news about drug gangs shooting anyone is not reported because the govt. of Mexico does not want that kind of news to get out and hurt the country's reputation. And then, local newspaper editors and reporters have been threatened with death by the same drug gangs, if they even dare report on their activities.
Speaking of newspapers, on a side issue, can I ask the commenters here if their local newspaper still runs a 'religion' or 'faith' page on Friday or Saturday? They will list things like the church service times, addresses, and maybe even special activities like Vacation Bible School or food or clothing drives.

Good description, 'John' but I was wondering what the hymns were, and what was served at lunch. And what was the size of the offering? And the weather outside? And...did you walk there, ride your scooter, motorcycle, skateboard, roller skates, or just use your 1969 Ford Thunderbird with the 492cc engine?

Mention of the movie, 'Sgt York' below reminded me of the other one, "Hacksaw Ridge" about Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector who saved a lot of his soldiers on the battlefield in World War 2.

Obviously, they have not reported on the FBI report on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s hidden life with other women. It's an ugly thing, that makes you want to have an 'irregular bowel movement' every time you see his name on streets, buildings, etc.
And they have not been able to notice a pattern among such news events as why Baltimore is so deplorable, though run for decades by Democrats, while Portland, Oregon (about the same population as Baltimore) is much better, though also run for decades by Democrats.

I don't mean to doubt the veracity of the story, but when I do a websearch for this news item, it only appears on the website cited here, but not on any major news sites, nor newspapers, even the Los Angeles Times that should carry any news about Mexico.

Purim is a Jewish festival that celebrates Esther's role in standing up for Jews. Check out the book in your Old Testament and note that God is not mentioned. Maybe for that reason, today's Jews like the book so much, because many of them do not believe in God. I have read surveys that show about one-third do not believe in God, which seems incredible to me since they are 'God's Chosen People' and much of the Bible is about them. Some time ago, something in archaeology was found that proved something in the Old Testament, maybe even something as basic as King David's existence, and many Jews scoffed at the reliability of the evidence.
Now, if Christians think they are going to gain Jewish converts, they should think twice. The roots of Jewish suspicion of Christians go way back, and the Holocaust only deepens them. In fact, you could say that only 2/3 of the Jews believe in God, but 99 percent believe in the Holocaust, which they do annually commemorate, especially if you watch PBS.
Many times, I think the promotion of 'visit the land of the Bible' to evangelical Christians has more to do with salesmanship than with a desire to deepen someone's understanding of the Bible. In fact, shouldn't they visit Turkey and Greece, where many of the churches of the New Testament were?
