Lance: your church teaches this: Go to confessional for every mortal sin you commit, or burn in hell forever. The Bible teaches this: John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son HATH everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."
Lance: I understand what you are saying about the temperament, but the "church" of Rome is un-reformable. Those who are saved out of catholicism usually spend a period of time trying to reform their church, but then they realize that they need to get out. I thought this part was quite odd: "Cardinal Kasper said: 'We have much to learn from Luther, beginning with the importance he attached to the word of God.'" Never could truer words have been spoken, unfortunately, his church does not agree in the least with sola scriptura. Still they cling to the traditions of men.
Michael Hranek: Exodus 22:28 Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people. For some relevant NT verses, check out 2 Peter 2:10, Jude 1:8, and Romans 13:7.
"People are very excited about their faith and about coming together as a family with the Holy Father."Interesting to note that the only use in Scripture of the term "holy father" is John 17:11. In contrast,
http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/index.htm
says: "THE HOLY FATHER
The Roman Pontiff, as the successor of Peter, is the perpetual and visible principle and foundation of unity of both the bishops and of the faithful. LUMEN GENTIUM, 23"
"But any time you pray for someone, you are mediating between that person and Jesus Christ."
Webster's definition: "one who interposes between parties at variance for the purpose of reconciling them."
That is what the Lord Jesus alone can do as He presents His perfect sacrifice for sin to the Father on behalf of His elect. When we pray for others, namely those we know who are not yet Christians (for those are the only ones at variance with God), we are not mediating, rather we are asking the Lord to save them.
I Corinthians 5:9-10 "I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world."
"And the Moslems worship our God, but like many Prots, have a less than perfect understanding of what he is about."
Thrown in just to stir things up?
GG: I thought you explained it very clearly, and I had not known that stuff before. I'm serious. Only one problem: Its not found in the Bible. "The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from ALL sin." Yes we need to make restitution, but that is here on this earth, not in Purgatory.
OOh this'll be a hot topic! (pun not originally intended) In keeping with modern times, these indulgences come with an expiry date! And GG, who cares what pseudo-biblical book you get the doctrine from, if it contradicts other revealed truths in the Bible, then something has to go. Was Christ's death on the cross not sufficient? What kind of twisted dogma is it that says: "You're saved, but boy does hell (little h) await!!"
Ron Paul will not come out and say something as simple as "homosexuality is sin." The "statement of faith" is more of "Yes I'm a Christian and here's what I'm going to do as president."
Not a word of that can you prove or support from scripture, lance, so they damnable heresies!! Dan I really liked your narrow minded comment. Moderator Alpha: I would encourage you to silence the mouths (see Titus 1:11, Hebrews 11:33) of the gainsayers and blasphemers to whom you are giving "airtime" on this site. I would not want to be you if you stand before our dear Lord Jesus to answer for standing by when lies are spread on your own site!!! Please read and consider this. Whatever you believe, at least stand by it and your conscience and what you believe to be the proper interpretation of God's holy Word. Feel free to email me.
This is not about me and my beliefs. I just want you to stand by what you believe and don't let heresy abound.
