John Yurich wrote:
There are saved individuals in the RCC, the Eastern Orthodox Church and Mainline Protestant Churches. Saved individuals are not just in Fundamentalist Protestant Churches. Nebraska Jim:Why do you state that a candidate for the priesthood in the RCC can not be a man who has received Jesus as their Savior and Lord by praying to Him and asking Him to become their Savior and Lord?
1. Regarding the RCC, EO and Mainline Churches--If the church teaches works for salvation or agrees with RCC ideas of justification(which includes many mainline groups), very few if any are saved in there(i.e. Orthodox, RCC, etc.) And even if there are any saved, it does not mean to let them sit by idly in an institution awaiting God's wrath. Reform is needed. If nobody cares to reform according to the Scriptures alone, then who in the organization is saved? According to the Apostles the command is to repent..reform..and believe the Gospel. If not..eternal fire.

2. Concerning Jim's statement--Because the Bible says so by not saying anything like that.

The RCC is a home of doctrine of demons. And that is not my opinion. The Apostles categorically stated that doctrines requiring celibacy and abstinence from foods to be doctrines of demons.

I think you are right about that, Mike. The Democrats want the health insurance for children, but at the same time support abortion. It certainly does not make sense. Or maybe they support abortion so there are not as many children to register with the same health insurance the democrats are pushing. Perhaps to be most consistent, they should put both pro-abortion/pro-choice and health insurance aside unless they can sound logical...meaning abolish abortion and provide child health care. Ah well, off to bed over here on this side of the big pond.

Thank you. I see what you mean. I guess the first step is to simply not make it a requirement to observe them. I think I already know that much...that these are not required and if not required(based on the testimony of Scripture), better to not observe them at all(please see my other post below about Apostle Paul's disappointment about the Galatians' observance of days). Although, I think eventually I may need to go further...removal of the symbols used with such days. Do you still have a Christmas tree and put up decorations for Christmas and Easter? I mean if I am not going to observe the day or festivity, should not objects associated with it also be removed?

Thanks. Time for bed now.

I had the same thought, Rogerant. It does not say God foreknew who would believe or not and these he predestinated. It simply says whom he foreknew, he predestinated and whom he predestinated, he called, justified and will glorify. Sounds more like to me that those He predestinated will be called and will believe, therefore will be justified and subsequently glorified.

Good words, Nathan and Just A Thought.

Nathan, a question for you and others...did you come to a point where you decided to abolish observance of Christmas? How have you explained this to others? Was it a difficult "wrestling" of thoughts about giving it up? And for Easter also? I am in this position now. To be consistent in using the Bible alone to direct my worship and personal piety, I see that not only halloween, but many other religious observances and rituals need to be done away with. What will my family think of me..has been a major hurdle in giving up the two "big ones"(Christmas and Easter). Thanks for any support and input.

Thank you Miguel for the discussion. Although I disagree, I appreciate your time and input on this. Of course, I believe the Bible...it is fundamental to my faith. In that sense, I am a Biblical fundamentalist and originally chose that selection from this thread's poll. Calvinist, or not, I think we'd say the Bible is fundamental to our doctrinal positions. In fact, if we had no New Testament, we'd know no glorious truth that whom God predestinated, he calls, justifies and glorifies, preserving the saints in Christ and keeping them from falling(Rom. 8:29&30, Jude 1 & 24).

We can dicuss the title "Holy Father." Jesus addressed God as Holy Father, not Peter or some other man who would be Peter's successor.

Actually you make a good point, Nathan. I study other languages which have not "simplified" so much as modern English and I see your point very clearly(and explains my response to Mike). Sarcasm or not, you are correct.

The truth of course wrote:

Palin apostacy: being in league with the Church of Rome
As I thought, Palin is one of the many compromising pentecostals. I know very well why I don't want somebody like her in office to lead this country when such ones have shallow compromising theology based on feelings and experience.

As for McCains', no surprise that they get in office and never correct the homosexual and abortion trends since they are also in adultery.

Yes, 1 Thessalonians 5:22 is good enough reason to abstain from halloween: "Abstain from all appearance of evil."
So is Galatians 4:9-11: "But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain."
The Apostle was not very happy with the Galatians turning to a law-gospel of certain days(Ye observe days...). He called it bondage..a return to bondage from which Christ had set them free in the Gospel. Apostle Paul identified it as weak and beggarly...void, empty, powerless, white on the outside but full of dead men's bones on the inside, a form of godliness yet denying the power thereof. If this day-observation was displeasing to God then, how much more so today's observances of supposed holy days and especially halloween. "Come out from among them and be ye separate." Come out from bondage and be free.

I think I would have to agree with DJC and submit again what I said before regarding predestination and its foundation on Christ....

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."(Rom. 8:29 & 30)

"According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world...Having predestinated us us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will."(Eph. 1:4&5)

"God hath from the beginning chosen you for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ."(2 Thess. 2:13&14)

Notice in each passage that God's predestination and foreknowledge is built on the foundation of Christ(his Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord Jesus Christ, our gospel, etc), so it is not man-centered. Each passage points to the work of Jesus Christ. It is not my work, but God's work through His Son. Hope that helps.

Ah...ooookkkk..now I see...lol I think this confusion could be remedied by using AV English in everyday usage.

Mike, that could have been taken care of 400 years ago. And people have been trying to do that for the last 400 years, although with too little success in my opinion to persuade me to adopt a more modern version over the AV. Do you think it would take that long to correct the AV or to make a more accurate translation?

I was thinking the same thing. Another excuse for a "more accurate" version of the Bible to be published, as if God needs the modern science of archaeology to preserve or correct his word which has already been established.

Good point, Jim, about Obama's sitting under Mr. Wright. Wright's words are dangerous and anybody who has let those words sink in would be dangerous also. As for Palin and her pentecostalism...hmm...considering the state of much of the pentecostal-charismatic movement with its propensity to compromise and making judgement based on experience and feelings, I don't know how stable she would be for leading the country.

Dead in trespasses and sins is what the Apostle Paul said of the Ephesians prior to God granting them repentance unto life. Works for me.

From my understanding, Miguel, when the law was revealed then sin awakened and spiritual death became a real thing. I will stick with Paul's other statement to the Ephesians whom he addressed as formerly dead in trespasses and sins. It is fatal either way. If it wasn't fatal then Christ died in vain and eternal death is not really something that awaits the unbelievers who die. Of course it is also written in Romans 7 about those who bring forth fruit unto death."For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death."(Rom. 7:5)

Yes, but Mike what about Ephesians 2:1..

You hath he quickened who were dead in trespasses and sins. And in Romans 7, Paul says "Sin revived and I died." Evidently it is a fatal sickness.
