Adriel I have been serving in the prison ministriy for over 20 years… I prayed very hard about whether it would be God's will for me to become a state Chaplain at one point ... but the answer I got from God was that, for that ministry, I was there serving Him, and not the state. Granted, any institution that you go to, even as a volunteer, will have a certain amount of rules… The problem is how invasive those rules are for you carrying out your job. As a volunteer, I have liberty to preach the gospel, and have never had any problems whatsoever doing it… They hinted at me one time that they would prefer that I didn't preach against homosexuality, (didn't work) but that was the closest they got to making that attempt… So far... If I were a state Chaplain, I would have to ensure that every religion received equal access… I would have to make certain that any request for religious material, including Wiccan, Mormon, Jehovah's Witness, Satanist, Native American whatever you call it, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, the list goes on and on and on… was available, and seek volunteers to come in for each of those. There was no way that I, in good conscience, could even consider bringing cult literature to someone. Much less ensuring that a cult had access to them. It's not about whet |

To be honest, I miss having local Christian bookstores: in my early days of being a Christian, (I received Christ at 19,) I was an avid reader, and even though I tend to follow the old adage of "live in the Bible, and visit good books…" I found Christian fiction to be, at times, enlightening, as well as entertaining— and honestly, it is what inspired me to write. Granted, there's a lot of trash… But there's trash at Walmart. And I don't see too many people voting to boycott Walmart… Honestly, I believe that the death of the Christian bookstore to be the result of e-books, not just being able to buy online… For every one Christian fiction paperback I sell, I sell at least 10 to 15 e-books. As far as the nonfiction I sell, that runs about one paperback for every 3 e-books. |

Sadly, many of us here disagree on many things. Personally, I came to the conclusion that most of the posters were too divisive and derogatory—as a result, I post infrequently because I see no sense arguing with others. My assumption is, however, that many of us DO name the name of Christ—and that is what I appreciated about Dr. Lahaye. When the Left Behind series came out, even Wal-Mart promoted them...a Christian series of books that presented the Gospel. Paul gloried in that: "What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice." Philippians 1:18 There were things I didn't agree with in his theology... But Christ was preached, and I'm happy about that. |
