How does one show a movie about Jesus without falsely misrepresenting Him to begin with?
His Word is sufficient.
Romans 10:17-21

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

"ho ho ho"...idle words historically, devil’s entry line in medieval plays

Another example of why it is wise to examine things before we repeat them.

Dr. Tim, obviously then, his Word is sufficient.
And striving not about words do not include words or expressions which are contrary to His Word.
We are to defend the truth.
I would also submit that decorating or making the Gospel more appealing through vain traditions and glitz will, more likely than not, fall on bad soil.
His Word is offensive to sinners.
I am encouraged that more people are examining the subject and coming out of it.
...so, on my end, I have witnessed that this is not a ridiculous debate at all as those with whom I have witnessed appreciate the truth.

Not surprising but Barbie has not been very wholesome for most of the time it's been around.
I would be very careful taking my children down the toy aisles. There are so many toys that are evil.

For Bible based-
I had responded to your question earlier...
Truth is important in the Bible! Jesus did say that He is the way,the Truth and the life...
Christians are to walk in the truth and defend the truth...He said...
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 4:24

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15

12/25 is not the birth of Christ
The date is not in Scripture and we,like the faux pa, have no license to deviate from that which is in the Word.
It's called "adding to"...like the RCs do with their traditions

Yes, John UK. A man is not justified by feeling justified.
I was trying to witness to a woman who thinks that she is a Christian but loves the RC church. I asked her if she knew that Christ was being represented in the Mass and she said that she didn't care what they were doing. She feels good.

That's the only verse that I am aware of that speaks of showing forth His death.
We certainly wouldn't do it by a naivete scene by presenting a false representation of God or going along with a date that is withheld for His birth.
Don't you find it peculiar that God did tell us how to remember Him and that observing an annual birth date is not included? Adding to the Bible is no small matter even if you preface your sermons with.."we don't know the date". We don't have to substantiate any other events in the Bible by going along with false dates.
It's very easy to preach on the birth of Christ without using the word "christmas". It isn't found in Scripture and His word is sufficient. Trying to say that it means Christ sent is immaterial.
Mass is at the crux of it for the RCs, whether you accept that or not. If we just use the words of the Bible then we don't run into the problem of having to navigate all of the false facts in regards to the event nor the many mistakes in the seasonal hymns which are sung. Since when is any falsehood acceptable in the worship of Christ?

1 Corinthians 11:26

“For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”

The price for our sins was paid in full at the cross by the way...not in the manger.

Thank you, John UK. I will try to check that out.
I'm wondering why "christmas" isn't considered "adding to the Bible". I would submit that it is since we go along with a date that is not historically correct, or, at least, highly unlikely.
Truth is important when pointing others to the Truth. The liturgical calendar is a foolish device of the RCs.

...probably why it's a good idea not to make graven images or false representations of God and use them even for naivete scenes.
We remember Him in His death and proclaim it until He comes. That's what the Bible says to do.
"christmas" is just christ mass confusion..even the carols are not all theologically sound.
If only Christians would wake up and see that trees and sermons about christmas that have to be qualified by "of course, we don't know the date"
are in vain.

Yes, Contendia
I do see in Scripture that we are to proclaim his death until He comes but not His incarnation.
We should hear "Jesus" as much as we have to hear "christmas".
Better yet, it would be better to not hear "christmas" at all and just hear Christians use "Jesus".
As for the trees, call them what they are "bling bling trees".
Christ doesn't have anything to do with them either.

Speaking of silver and gold...

Jeremiah 10:2-5

2 Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.

4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

So,the Lord was speaking to His children in warning them not to learn the way of the heathen...not because they would worship the tree, in this instance, but because they would be following after vain traditions.
When Aaron wanted to make a feast unto the LORD with the golden calf, he was guilty of setting something apart unto the Lord which had been made for other gods. ...putting the Lord into the mix
much like "christmas" tree
God lays out principles for worship of Him. christmas is a violation of His Word because we don't have the authority to go along with any date as it is unknown. partial truth

Connor, it's the following after the ways of the heathen.
Calling it a "christmas" tree is insult to injury much like the golden calf Aaron wanted to use unto the LORD.
It doesn't matter what our motives or hearts are in the matter. It only matters what thus saith the Lord.
Not all specifics are laid out in the Bible but there are principles which are applicable for all things.
Oddly enough, we seem to miss the baal bush for the christmas trees. There is probably not a better example of a way of the heathen in Scripture than the baal bush and we still miss it. It's not what it means to us that matters.

I appreciate your kind exchanges, Unprofitable. I am encouraged that many others will have a discussion on this subject. I pray that we would come out from RC holy days and not be led by sentimental feelings.
Even good motives are vain if worship is not entirely in spirit and truth.
I have appreciated your comments, John UK and Susan, as well. I do grieve over this. It does make it easier to see how Roman Catholics have a difficult time overcoming traditions when more solid Christians are so easily caught up in traditions as well.
Lord help us.

Witches wouldn't think of the tree as representing God during this yuletide season and,of course, there are many Scriptures which warn us of learning the way of the heathen. We shouldn't use images to represent God. God's Word is more than sufficient.
Natalie, I have heard sermons in regards to the birth of Christ...since He was born 6 months after John, the Baptist, His birth would have been in fall probably during the Feast of Tabernacles which would have been more conducive to tax collecting (following a harvest).
And how appropriate..since He came to dwell (tabernacle) among us.
The other glaring problem would be the 6 months from what is celebrated as His birth and Passover around the time that He died. There are 6 months between october and april but not between december and april.
Of course, the date was not for us to know. How does one go along with a partial truth while upholding truth?

Ohh, Unprofitable...it's a mute point that Mary would attach a date to it. Even Mary celebrating it, annually, in the Bible is no where to be found.
Do we love the vain traditions of the RC church or Scripture?
It would make more sense to celebrate it on the Feast of Tabernacles than 12/25.

...but they are correct when they give the reason for this season. It was their celebration to begin with...why do we want it?
