I wonder if these same protestors were the ones featured a week or so ago in a news item here at SA that talked about them singing hymns during the protest.
That story made it seem like there was a distinctly Christian character to the protest. I guess it only happened at 11:00am Sunday outside of a church in the area, or it didn't happen at all, but was planted in the news media to get sympathy from Christians.
Too bad the people who report on this protest probably have no idea how Hong Kong was a British colony for so long.
If they did, they would insert a paragraph to explain it.

First, consider the source--the New American, publication of the John Birch Society. Before, people would cringe if you told them your read something from any of their publications. But today, with the Dems taking on more extreme positions, the JBS look positively normal and rational.
Latest news about impeachment is just another Dem publicity stunt, but I think it will backfire---Mr. Joe Q. Citizen will look at their craziness and say, 'Am I going to vote for these people again?'
You and I who probably don't pay much attention to news from the major TV networks, can easily forget that most Americans do get their news from them. They hang on CNN like it was Moses coming down from the mountain. So we have to think, this constant drumbeat against President Trump..what effect is it having on the public.
I do hope that they are tired of it, and are turning off the news and deciding to stop supporting Dems. But, since 'all politics is local' they will still vote for local candidates who they like for some local reason. And in some areas, like NYC, Chicago, LA, voting for anything but Dems is seen as treason.
Some conservatives like John Derbyshire say Trump will not win reelection next year, due to failures on things like immigration. He forgets about the judges on Supreme Court

If it weren't for the internet, I would not be writing this here, and you would not be reading it, or able to respond to it.
It's a real exercise to think back...when we did not have smartphones, when we did not have the Internet.
Watching old TV shows and movies helps out. I still remember it was an amazing thing that Perry Mason's fav detective Paul Drake had a phone in his car. I never met anyone who had a phone in their car.

I'm still thinking of that post that asked the question about someone in the 1950s being told what today's life would be like. Would they believe the issues in this story? Today you cannot question what anyone does with their 'Adam knew Eve' (as the KJV Bible says) practices, but if they have too many objects in their house, you can accuse them of being mentally ill, a 'hoarder'!

There goes the neighborhood! and all the plans of parents and grandparents to pay for their children's college education! What for, when you see this going on!

Interesting exercise to compare 1950s with today. Looking backwards can be just as interesting. An easy way to do that is to look at TV shows of that time. "Perry Mason" is a good one, and smoking is one thing that stands out for me. They were always lighting up! And it reminds me of many objects not seen anymore: remember those huge ashtrays and lighters on desks and coffee tables? Didn't anyone notice the stench in the clothes, carpeting, air?
And then, the cars! Huge, and no seat belts!

I thought Mormons had their own self-support society like Social Security. The other post about Catholics being excluded makes you think...are they? that would certainly be a big issue, since the Roman Catholic Church is the largest one in the entire USA.
Because of that size, I doubt they are being excluded from any of these 'Christian Health Cost Sharing" companies.
Therefore, if you are a participant in them, you are also 'rubbing elbows' with them, sharing their health costs.
At the same time, they are doing the same with you. Are you OK with that?

There goes the neighborhood, I mean, the plans of many grandparents to donate to their grandchildren's college education.
Too bad they do not follow the Bible's clear teaching on the duties of the elderly, esp. in I Timothy 5, where the Life of the Older Christian Woman is set out.

Well said, "John"
I just wonder...did the choir sing during the offering or did your piano player perform a solo?

I wonder if the church could be included in the divorce lawsuits that are bound to follow this approach. If they required pre-marital counseling as part of this ceremony, they could say they did their best.
But I always wonder why people get married in church after they have been 'shacking up' for years. Are they just looking for wedding gifts (that will be greater than the cost of the wedding)?

I am so glad to have visited SA's news page to find this story, since I never watch NBC News. I know several liberals who love to boast of their travels, and it is as bad as the Good Old Days when friends would invite you over to their homes and then show you an interminable slide show (remember slide projectors, screens?) of their vacation pictures.
In a way, we can all be grateful for Social Media for eliminating these slide shows, though some health news articles say socializing is good for you (though being bored may remove all that benefit).
I already pointed out that these liberals are increasing their 'carbon footprint' by traveling in jet planes all over the place, and I remind them of the old saying, 'Everything is within walking distance, if you have enough time.'

Radical seems to be the hot button word today. If you want to sell the same-old same-old, just say it's radical.
As to West being a Christian and preaching, well, the same was said of Martin Luther King, Jr. who taught everything Jesse Jackson knows about 'shakedowns' (saying you will create negative publicity about a company if they don't make a generous donation to your favorite charity--your organization). And then we can look into the FBI report on MLK's activities with underage women.

Interesting that 'Pocahontas' Sen Warren has hired a Planned Parenthood exec to head her campaign in Florida. I guess that really shows you whose side she is on.

Better for Christians to teach their own children at home, like Paul says in his letter to Timothy:
I Timothy 5
3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.
4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. 5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. 6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. 7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. 8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. 9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man. 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; 12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house;

This does not surprise me in the least. Put this story next to the one we saw here at SA News about some Hillsong person saying they weren't Christians anymore, and you get the idea that what it means to be Christian is a very fluid concept, subject to the whims of anyone anywhere (yes, reminds you of those Old Testament days when 'everyone did what was right in their own eyes').
I remember how surveys of prisoners show that 99 percent of them believe in God. Now, as to what that God is like, that's another question. No doubt many of the black prisoners have been 'evangelized' by the Nation of Islam (with Farrakhan, the anti-Semite), so their idea of God is similar to the Muslim God.
By the way, speaking of black prisoners, did you see in your local news about the knife attack in Tallahassee, Florida about a week ago? The black guy knifed about 5 white people, but the mainstream media were not out there claiming a racial bias in his attack, and I doubt he will charged with any 'hate crime'

A more interesting question is, "Why was HOnk Kong a British colony in the first place?"
I think the answer has to do with the Brits getting the Chinese addicted to opium, which I don't think grows in Britain anyway.

But it must be a healthy state, at least, if you happen to check out the news story today over at Yahoo. SF is 1st, then LA, Irvine, and San Diego rank in top 10.
I think these healthiest cities are about the author's or editor's personal habits, so having a good place to eat barbequed pork sandwiches is not high on their list, but drinking craft brews, riding mountain bikes on trails, and other 'socially acceptable' forms of recreation are on their list. They just craft a survey to show people in 'their' favorite cities rank high.

What happened to the hymn-singing that we read about here at SA a week or so ago? That article seemed to make the protest into a distinctly Christian movement.
It made me wonder...are there so many Christians in Hong Kong? I know that Japan has very few Christians, and nearby Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world.
