Too bad, 'Adriel,' that most of the media in the US have not gotten the message about the Catholic Church not being Christian. For them, as well as for most people walking down the street in the US, it is the Largest Christian Church in the USA. They would say the same thing about Mormons, but some might doubt the JWs being called Christians. Then, when you try to pin them down on what exactly are the JWs, they would say, 'They're a cult, doesn't everyone know that! Any group that makes its followers stand on the corners every Saturday or go door to door has got to be a cult! On that criteria, the bicycle-riding Mormon missionaries would also be cultists. This also reminds me that most people sitting in the pew on Sunday would not be able to correct the Pope on this point, because they don't know the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. |

Usually, for all these British news items, my comment is..does not apply! does not apply (to USA)! But....here is an exception! I do think this would be the same in the USA, though maybe less so. On one hand, there are more devout, practicing evangelicals, Mormons, JWs, and..gasp..even Catholics are reading the Bible... But on the other hand, youths today are taking in a huge amount of info at college, high schools, public libraries, etc that is anti-Biblical. You could even say that many preachers are not helping because they will talk about recent news or books to gather their examples, rather than talk about examples in the Bible. By the way, Happy Yom Kippur! |

It is easy to confuse Hong Kong Chinese with the Mainland Chinese, which was done in previous post about an underground Christian movement. The 2 are very different groups, like dcomparing Cubans who have arrived recently with those who have lived in the South Florida area for the past 50 years. Sure, there may be some "Cuban Solidarity" but the older Cubans know they will never get back the country they left in the same conditions it was in when they left it. As a matter of fact, you could not go back to Chicago, Kansas City, Peoria, or Spring Hill and not cry about how it has changed in the past 50 years. In addition, Hong Kong Chinese even speak Chinese differently than the Mainland Chinese (not that anyone here would notice that, but if you listen to John Derbyshire's podcasts, you would). There is even a note of 'racism' between the 2 groups, according to John's recent podcast. I do think it is ironic that the Chinese authorities want to outlaw the use of face masks, since as we all know, 'they all look alike to me' which makes me think the hardest job in the world is to be a police detective in China--how hard would it be to tell one guy from another? |

I would not be so sure they would win in court. They might end up with a Clinton or Obama-appointed judge. Look at the Asian students who sued Harvard for discriminating against them. The judge said that there was no 'animus' in that set up, that the college was just applying a diverse student body. Of course, logic tells us that the judge could not say that if blacks were complaining about being left out. So, like the case of the US Marines female general, who said that 'our diversity is our strength,' many people think this is the Gospel for today. But let me ask the general, when it is time to have your eyes operated on for cataracts, do you want a diverse, though not very competent, medical group of doctors handling your surgery? Or do you want the Asian guy was at the head of his medical school class. When you cross that bridge, do you want it built by a diverse company that has made lots of errors in the past because their engineers, though highly diverse, really don't have the foggiest idea of what they are doing. Meanwhile, do you think in Russia or China they are worried about being diverse in their militaries? |

A good article which proves what I have been saying for a long time---most people who warm a pew on Sunday mornings have very little knowledge of what makes their particular 'place of worship' different from the other ones down the street. Of course, whenever we read an article that says things like '..most Christians in the US..' we have to remember they are including Catholics in their purview, since it is the largest church in the USA. With that said, I can easily see how they do not have biblical beliefs. They don't focus on the sermon (or homily) of the priest, but on the ceremony. As for Protestants, the liberal variety are preaching against President Trump, blaming him for all evils like meat-eating, plastic straw and plastic bag using, sea level rise, hurricanes slowing down, and the neighbor's cat up the tree. The 'evangelical' ones might be able to tell you more about which dispensation we are living in, who are the 144,000 elect, and other details of the last book of the Bible--it is the sole book of the Bible that the most books have been written. So it is no wonder that few preachers will touch 1 Timothy 5, with its clear directions for the older Christian woman. First, she is a widow, since even today, women outlive men. Families should take care of their widow |
