Jim Lincoln wrote, “It’s a pity that some things that are good or at least indifferent are put to evil purposes.” How true! A democratic government that gets its power from the people now abuses its power by subjugating the very people who elected it. If that isn’t evil, I don’t know what is. But of course they are robbing us of our hard-earned liberties “for our own good,” so that makes it okay, right, Jim?
John, I’m afraid I may have misunderstood your initial post. It sounded to me as if you were saying that we must confess every single sin we have ever committed in order to be saved, when apparently you meant that we must wholeheartedly agree with God that we are sinners—without which agreement we would see no reason for salvation.
Stop the bus, John. It’s going the wrong way! Where on earth do you get the notion that “confessing their sins” is necessary for people to be saved? You sure don’t find that in the Bible. If I had to confess every sin I’ve committed in the past 66 years, even if I could remember them all, I would no doubt commit other sins during the very act of confession. Christians should confess our sins—I John 1:9, cf 5:13. Lost people should confess Christ as Lord—Romans 10:9. Let’s not add to God’s plan of salvation, as do the Catholics, Mormons, Campbellites and other heretics.
Jim, what does Barr’s relationship with President Trump have to do with any of this? If Mr. Trump personally came up with a cure for coronavirus tomorrow, you’d damn him for not coming up with it yesterday. When the hospitals get back to normal, you really should seek treatment for your chronic Trump Derangement Syndrome. You have it bad, old son.
There was never a time when all Christians could perform miracles. If there had been, the disciples wouldn’t have sent for Peter when Dorcas died. The snakes in Mark 16 are just that: snakes. Paul handled one, albeit involuntarily, without harm. There was a purpose for that. People saw the power of God and got saved. Nowadays when people handle serpents and speak in “tongues,” they only do it to show off, to demonstrate to their cronies how “spiritual” they are. Nobody gets saved, so they are not following the pattern set in scripture. God can and does perform miracles today in answer to prayer, but the days of apostolic sign gifts ended when the last apostle died, and apparently were waning even before that. Otherwise why would Paul write, “Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick”?
Amen, Nick. Glad to see that at least one person gets it. I believe that God in His sovereignty allows people to sin. Adriel and others apparently believe that in His sovereignty He causes them to sin.
No, YIA, I meant that you have made disparaging remarks about American Christians just because we aren’t currently undergoing severe persecution. You should be glad we aren’t. We are still free to support missionaries, including missionaries to “closed” mission fields. And by the way, not all missionaries act like college students on spring break. They don’t all go on “mission trips.” The ones I know live in the countries God has called them to, and they are godly servants of Jesus Christ who have devoted their all to spreading the gospel.
One day this week I had to go to the bank to make a deposit and on the way I noticed about a hundred cars in the Winn-Dixie parking lot. But of course people don’t get the virus at the grocery store. They can only get it at church.
YIA, in some of your previous posts you seem to have considerable contempt for American and European Christians. Who do you suppose made such enormous sacrifices to send and carry the gospel into Asia over the past two centuries? Who do you suppose is sending missionaries all over the world—including to China and other parts of Asia—to this very hour?
If things get “much more perfect,” Matilde, America’s Christians will find ourselves in concentration camps. Wouldn’t bother Jim, though. Elimination of Christianity in America has been part of the liberal game plan for decades, and he knows it.
