If you can't find it in the Bible it isn't true.
Then I presume you reject the Trinity. Belief in the Trinity is based on Sacred Tradition. Only by reading the Bible in the light of Sacred Tradition can the Trinity be discovered in it.

Lance, defend your statement 'I defend the RCC, the only authority with the right to interpret the scriptures' with scripture.
I might equally say: Defend your view that Christ left behind no teaching authority but a set of divinely-inspired books, with the implied instruction, "Read these books and try and work it out for yourselves."

Where does your training come from but the RCC that you persist in defending?
Of course it comes from the RCC, and of course I defend the RCC, the only authority with the right to interpret the scriptures.

Others may think that they have some personal right to interpret scripture for themselves, but they contradict one another, and only sow confusion.

The Jesuit Oath Exposed
Oh no, not again!

I suppose it's as the writer G. K. Chesterton said: people have to keep attacking the RCC (even with lies), because if they stop attacking it they'll have to start believing it.

The lies are a way of rejecting God's grace.

Or as another writer, Voltaire, said regarding the RCC: "Lie, lie, lie. Some of it will stick."

If you were "converted" by a Chick tract, you certainly can't claim to be saved. Quite the opposite.

You ought to pray very hard to the Holy Spirit for guidance on that one.

So in no time at all you figured out what the RCC in 2000 years has been unable to work out?

Is there something else you're not telling us?

It just goes to show, by following the false doctrine of private interpretation of scripture you cannot obtain the correct interpretation.

Regarding John 19:26-27, while we are not commanded to pray to Mary, it is a recommendation that we would be very foolish to ignore. Christ has given us his mother to help us achieve salvation. Satan is intensely aware of this, and desperately anxious for us to reject her.

"could you kindly point us to the scriptures that verify your statement, 'only the RCC has the authority to interpret it'?"

Matt 16:19

where does Christ specifically state the necessity of the mass

I Cor 11:24-25

and praying to a mortal woman saved by God's grace? Where in scripture does Christ command us to pray to Mary?

John 19:26-27

I trust GG will not tell you that. The Bible is central to RC teaching. In fact, only the RCC has the authority to interpret it.

And Jim, there are two things that the enemies of Christ hate above all else: the Mass and the Virgin Mary.

Glad it makes you so happy, Jim. Perhaps you'd like to come and join all the protesting pro-abortionists, atheists, gay and lesbian activists, promoters of promiscuity (you could help them distribute condoms), and all the rest.

In fact, I'm sure that if any protesters at all turn up, they'll be totally invisible.

And Davey, the filioque isn't much of a problem. In Eastern-rite Catholic churches its inclusion in the Creed is optional.

Davey, you're right that there are some doctrinal differences between the RCC and the Orthodox, but I don't think they are so great.

They don't believe in Purgatory (and I've heard a Serbian priest strenuously reject the concept). It's something I'd like to find out more about, but I suspect that praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased is something that they're not averse to. And I've heard of some belief in a state of transition of the soul after death, though I don't know any details.

The Immaculate Conception was argued over for centuries in the RCC before being defined as a dogma. I think that, given the intense Orthodox devotion to the Virgin Mary, they wouldn't require too much urging to accept it in discussions on unity with the RCC.

And enough already, I'm sure the Orthodox don't believe in universal salvation, though they may believe, like the RCC, that Christ died for all.

Hyvää päivää, Davey.

Actually, I was thinking about this even as I was writing my last comment. My answer would be that the Eastern Orthodox are actually Catholics, even though their hierarchy refuses to acknowledge the primacy of the Bishop of Rome.

Interesting. I've never heard of this doctrine, especially since the RCC considers all those things essential.

Exactly! A church with countless saints (along with quite a few sinners), and spread throughout all nations, as its Founder commanded. ("Go ye, and teach all nations...")

It's true that salvation is based on saving grace, but that saving grace, deriving from Christ's Sacrifice on the cross, is available only through the Mass and sacraments of the RCC. Fortunately, that grace is made available even to those who do not know that the RCC is the One True Church.
