Va Reader wrote: If you can't find it in the Bible it isn't true. Then I presume you reject the Trinity. Belief in the Trinity is based on Sacred Tradition. Only by reading the Bible in the light of Sacred Tradition can the Trinity be discovered in it. |

enough already wrote: Lance, defend your statement 'I defend the RCC, the only authority with the right to interpret the scriptures' with scripture. I might equally say: Defend your view that Christ left behind no teaching authority but a set of divinely-inspired books, with the implied instruction, "Read these books and try and work it out for yourselves." |

"could you kindly point us to the scriptures that verify your statement, 'only the RCC has the authority to interpret it'?"Matt 16:19 where does Christ specifically state the necessity of the mass I Cor 11:24-25 and praying to a mortal woman saved by God's grace? Where in scripture does Christ command us to pray to Mary? John 19:26-27 |

Davey, you're right that there are some doctrinal differences between the RCC and the Orthodox, but I don't think they are so great. They don't believe in Purgatory (and I've heard a Serbian priest strenuously reject the concept). It's something I'd like to find out more about, but I suspect that praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased is something that they're not averse to. And I've heard of some belief in a state of transition of the soul after death, though I don't know any details. The Immaculate Conception was argued over for centuries in the RCC before being defined as a dogma. I think that, given the intense Orthodox devotion to the Virgin Mary, they wouldn't require too much urging to accept it in discussions on unity with the RCC. And enough already, I'm sure the Orthodox don't believe in universal salvation, though they may believe, like the RCC, that Christ died for all. |

Jim Lincoln wrote: Billy Graham Believes Catholic Doctrine of Salvation Without Bible, Gospel, or Name of Christ Interesting. I've never heard of this doctrine, especially since the RCC considers all those things essential. |
