James Thomas wrote:
We must come to the Scriptures as a child though and not with presuppositions.
A new little born one does. Especially one who was formerly ignorant of Scripture. Opening their bible morning and evening and asking lots of questions of God. God did say he'd send gifts to his bride to mature her. When these are taken away it is a sign of chastening or judgment.

Nevertheless the remnant, in time comes to be quickened by the Spirit whether from Churched or unChurched backgrounds. It is written: Acts 2:28,29 And Ephes 2:11-14 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

Jesus Christ alone can unite the city of Jerusalem and a Scripture you gave from Isa 27 seems to indicate he will if one keeps reading.

The EPA bought a pumpkin patch. They thought that they could make a more climate friendly use of land from chickens than the previous owner made from pumpkins, so they went to a poultry farm and bought 50 chickens.
'50 is a lot of chickens for that little pumpkin patch,' commented the proprietor. 'We are used to big business' the EPA replied.'
A week later the EPA was back at the farm. 'We need another 50 chickens,' they said. 'Boy, you are serious about this chicken farming,' the poultry farmer told them.
'Oh yes,' the EPA replied. 'It' will be Ok if we can just iron out a few problems.' 'Problems?', asked the farmer. 'Yeah,' replied the EPA, 'We think we planted that first batch too close together.'

QUOTE][AUTHOR]Lurker[/AUTHOR]2) believers , ...dead or alive, are presently "in Adam" and will remain so till the resurrection. There is no other option.[/QUOTE]Not so, (Joh11:25,26) the benefits that accompany life in a believer flows from justification, adoption and sanctification, and the several benefits that accompany or flow from them: assurance of God's love, peace of conscience, joy in the Holy Spirit and perseverance therein unto the end. Though the bodies of believers do suffer the consequences of sin, as well as, the benefit of salvation from it, in this life (Ps.103). Yet when at death they cease to endure in the body, their souls will immediately pass into glory while their bodies *being still united to Christ* will *rest* in their graves till the resurrection of the dead. Whereas the soul *in Adam* and not *in Christ*, will not be delivered from the sting and curse of death and neither will they rest nor be free of sin and misery, contrarily they will in this life have a sense of God's revenging wrath, horror of conscience, and a fearful expectation of judgment which are only the beginning of what they shall endure after death, their bodies when imprisoned in the grave, & their soul in torment until the resurrection to judgment and the lake of fire.

Pumpkins cause climate change?

I thought the decrees God's which are His eternal purpose according to the counsel of His will whereby for His own glory He has foreordained whatsoever comes to pass, that He executes in the works of Creation and providence was the cause of weather. That creation/weather is used in it's extremes and severities to execute his righteous judgments and to bring about his good pleasure.

I thought pumpkins were for pies, for feeding people and animals. If they grow too many? then they ought to ask themselves why waste the space. They ought to better utilize space and decrease useless waste?

Science has lost its moorings, too many yachts.

After reading the article 1 Cor. came to mind.

Co 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
1Co 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
1Co 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
1Co 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
1Co 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
1Co 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
1Co 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

...Israel is a democratic country, where all the people don't march in lock-step.
I read his morning about the confusion among the 'Jews' just as one can observe among 'Christians' and it was heightened by opinion posts regarding a haredi news paper. A haredi man engaging with a local business man asked in the article why they (hadredi) were being murdered if they didn't even visit the temple mount at this time? Their leadership condemned it. There was no present way to be ceremonially clean, so it was forbidden. A social media stir arose over it, saying 'So some Jews were not to be murdered, but it was okay to murder others?' The original writer stated he meant to imply no such thing (my words)but that it seemed the perpetrators sought out persons looking religious. He stated he was attempting peace with his neighbor. Lies stir up much trouble and it does not seem (from the two news sources any way, there is any such effort by the Jews to rebuild the temple at this time as alleged to stir up hatred.

I found Spurgeon's Checkbook of Promises for today very encouraging in the midst of so many discouragement.

Where did Nicodemus' interest come from? Why did this man who, as you put it in describing life before conversion, knew not God, was not in a right relationship with God, did not want to know God and was enslaved to sin, come to Jesus at all?
Joh 3:1-2 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Joh 9:16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

Joh 12:37-40 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. Yesterday the death sentence was passed upon my habitation. I though I had been given the power to redeem it. But the testimony of a second witness said, No.

Just a matter of time and there was nothing I could do. There was nothing anyone else could or would do. I ended my night in total darkness as in the midst of weighing out the consequences of the sentence of death upon my habitation the lights went out in the whole village.

Death is to be totally powerless to self help of any kind and to be totally dependent on One with Omnipotence.

In 2 Cor.1:9 Paul talks about a sentence of death for the testimony of Jesus. That came to mind on rising this morning as did Romans 6 *Life* is to be baptized into the death of Christ and to be alive unto God through Him who is the Resurrection and the Life.

We cannot know another's election of grace, that is the secret counsel of God. We give the judgment of Christian Charity to those who believe the fundamentals of Christian teaching, the doctrine of the apostles and prophets upheld by the Head of the corner, Christ.

There are only 2 Covenants (1.) of Works (2.) of Grace. Two administrations Old & New *Testaments* which requires the death of the testator. We are in a time of a great falling away from the truth and for that reason true religion is either being refined in the elect or abandoned by its former professors.

Paul was in the remnant "in covenant" with God "from God's perspective" and the sin God overlooked was paid for on the cross.
We ought not trouble ourselves with God's perspective as relates to his decrees or secret counsel, only with what is revealed. There is more than enough to keep us in humble dependence on Christ for life, breathe and all things; just considering that we understand of what is written, ignorance of the law not withstanding.
We still in this body of sin must war the spirit against the flesh. See Deu 29:29

Though I acknowledge analogies break down, as did the analogy itself, I listened to a sermon on the Lord's Day that compared the will of an ant's direction on a piece of paper the direction he chose, while God turned the paper (secret counsel)as he went. Then the preacher spoke of many ants on the paper all going in a direction according to their will and God turning the paper. You see? How and why God does what he decrees in superlatively high.

Did glean the superlative strength or power of the Covenant initiator and the importance of the Covenanted Bride's faithfulness to Christ from your post. Will think on these according to the Scripture.

My gracious God and Father, because Christ's God and Father; therefore mine (I am his and he is mine)used this thread to make me fear. Fear sin, and how easily we are beset by it, fear being left to oneself to confer without total dependence on the Holy Spirit and others of like precious faith, especially when the Ministry is hard to find at the present time our hap is cast.

In recent days I have seen the truth of God's working all things together for good within the context of all of
Romans 8.

I'm sorry for bringing the CB Notes into this if by them it caused more confusion.
I do believe that the Lord's Day is the first day of the week and the Christian Sabbath. If we are mutually dependent on Christ our Head and his members, then to set one day of seven aside for it's observation would require the Lord's direction and like mindedness in his members, otherwise how confusing public worship would be.

Psa 87:2 The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

James Thomas wrote:
If by knowing the law the whole time...why did Paul's soul die specifically here in Romans 7:9?
How does this work? Jeremiah 31:33-34 explains.
Paul's soul died the death of condemnation of all and every sin under the law; yet it was still united to his body. Previously, he died in Adam, spiritually (stone) but condemned by the law, and slain by guilt he's duely sentenced. Mercy and grace find him and he is raised to newness of life in Christ Gal.2:20-21 having been quicked to repentance and faith in Christ.
1 Peter 1:2. How thankful I am to God for mercy and grace! Ever needy of it.

Now the law written on Paul's heart brought repentance unto spiritual life by faith in Jesus Christ. Born again from above the law of love is no longer engraved on a stone, but a new heart of flesh. The knowledge of the law had brought the just sentence of death related to the Covenant of Works, which none but the God/man the second Adam our Federal Head could keep, for Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and man.

Paul's due wrath was propitiated and his righteousness is now Christ's imputed to his account. See Rev 22:3-4 see Spurgeon's Checkbook of promises for today Paul is an example.

Joh 20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

Matthew Poole: "After 8 days signifieth here the 8 days from the resurrection counting the day wherein Christ rose for one...as after three says he shall rise again that is the third day. This appears the most probable use of the phrase. The disciples beginning from the resurrection to keep the first day of the week as the weekly sabbath and having met on the resurrection day, met again that day 7 night hoping probably for such a presence of Christ with them in their first meeting as they had before experienced ; nor was their expectation vain. It appears further from Acts xx.7 and 1 Cor. xvi.2, that the Christians were wont to meet together on the first day of the week which from Christ's resurrection or institution or both is taught to be the Lord's Day, Rev .i.10

Nor indeed do we read in all the Scripture of any Congregation on the Jewish sabbath, but upon this day; though indeed we do find that the apostles did meet together with the Jews in their synagogues on their sabbath, but no example after the resurrection where Christians only were assembled upon the Jewish sabbath."

Self correction. I was listening to a message and was made aware of the fact I used confusing terminology below: NC- New Covenant. There is only one Covenant made with Adam's children after the broken Covenant of Works; The Covenant of Grace. What was manifest of it in the Old Testament with less clarity was in the New Testament revealed with greater effusions of the the Spirit, all the elect of God have always and only been saved by grace.

Just wanted to clarify not wanting to confuse with my misuse of terminology.
Sorry.

Christopher you state 'a lot of knowledge and varied views.' I only understand there to be two views presented here?

Either there are 10 Commandments or 9 Commandments that reflect the perfect righteousness of Christ, for the Christian to conform to. Imperfectly in this life yes, but progressively until glory.

The message I'm heading back to states the Commandments were given to Israel as part of the Covenant of Grace, works failed in the garden with our first parents. The Promise of Gen 3:15 looks ahead to a New Covenant of Grace. If Adam couldn't keep it without original sin hindering him, it would seem God was presenting his plan of salvation progressively and with greater clarity after the resurrection and ascension, the Spirit being give

@Dorcas
Thank you for your prayers. It was a lesson there is a time for every purpose under heaven.

Yesterday, being the last of the six days to labor accomplishing the necessary things of this life my time with my son was upheld by much grace in physical strength working with along side 31 year old strength. There was little opportunity for conversation unless it was about the task at hand. The sabbath is the day for what I desired. But he is not here.

O that against every opposition, (and they are so numerous) Christ the Mediator of the NC will return to us again our family worship, beginning on the Sabbath.

Thought I'd share two edifying things I heard this morning
tinysa.com/sermon/41107124643
and
Gerard Hemmings 'The Christ-like response to the teaching of election

Both melted my heart to dependence on Christ with great thanksgiving and hope for my children and children's children.
Our God is gracious and of great power.
Who but the God/Man could have endured the wrath of God for His elect? Who but the ONLY Mediator between God and man would?

Blessings in Christ our Prophet, Priest and King! His Name and fame be highly exalted! Isa.24:21-23

Mourner wrote:
..if I .. understand what I'm reading, ...the time being accomplished for the resurrection according to Matt.12:40
As BMcC pointed out from Genesis; Scripture records there was evening and morning the first day etc.

If the Lord was crucified on Wednesday died in the afternoon, was laid in the tomb just before the evening of Wednesday then three evenings in the tomb would be:
Weds.- Thurs.-1
Thurs. - Friday-2
Fri.- Saturday-3

the first morning in the tomb
Thurs.- Friday-1
Fri.- Sat.-2
Sat.- Sun.-3

So agreeable to what BMcC said:
"Significantly Christ appeared to the disciples on the first day of the week, and not in the Sabbath, while John by using the term the Lord's Day, not Sabbath, for the day the resurrected Christ appeared to him, indicated it was a particular day pertaining to the Lord, in the mode as the Sabbath had been"

I believe that the transition from the OT Jewish Sabbath to the NT Christian Sabbath is to the glory of our resurrected Savior, David's son and David's Lord. The Son of man is Lord even (G2532)of the Sabbath. O what a heritage is ours in Christ!

See Ephesians 2:13-22

From the CB Notes: The 24 hours are divided into the twelve hours of the night(reckoned from sunset) and the twelve hours of the day reckoned from sunrise, see John 11:9. Hense the sixth hour of John 19:14 was our midnight; the third hour of Mark 15;25 was our 9 a.m.; the sixth hour of Matt. 24.45; Mark 15.33; Luke 23.44; was our noon; and the ninth hour of Matt 27.45;Mark 15.33,34 Luke 23.44; was our 3 p.m.

It follows therefore that the Lord was crucified on our Wednesday, was buried on that day before sunset; and remained 3 days and 3 nights in the tomb, as foretold by him in Matt. 12.40 rising from the dead on the third day, the first day of the week. The fixed days and dates at either end , hold the whole period as in a vice, and place the whole subject on a foundation.

The 1st Day of the week- the 18th day of Nisan (Our Saturday sunset: “the third day” of Matt.16.21,& c.; not the third day of the feast.” The sequence of events from the Scripture they record begins the 9th day Nisan to the 18th day Nisan.

If I rightly understand what I'm reading, it's saying that 6 p.m. completed the third evening and on or just after the close of day 7, day 8 or new beginning of the 7 day cycle, the time being accomplished for the resurrection according to Matt.12:40

@Dorcas,

Greetings Dorcas,

You were on my mind in the night watches and I remembered you before the Lord with the little I know of you and yours. You were in the company of another person on my mind. A man entrusted with the oversight of leadership in a nation, because his wife is the Queen. Though as Christians we are pressed at such a time as this, our ground is sure and our eternity sinless glory in Christ, when finally we'll be satisfied, because like Him! But I feared for the eternity of this man.

My middle son has been coming and going from my house since early this morning helping us both to prepare for winter. We learned after last year. Please pray for our time together. He's due back shortly to help with wood and to get the 'ugly wood' (too knotty to stack) for his house til they get oil.

Pray we have opportunity to lift our thoughts heavenward in conversation.

Good preparation day to you. May we all with anticipation prepare to meet our God. He has promised to meet with us here not only as individuals, and families, but as communities as well. O that He would convince all those who do not or forget to delight in Him superlatively, what they are missing!

AUTHOR]John UK[/AUTHOR]... we need to get back to the Sabbath. [/QUOTE]Indeed. I was raised in a household that was used to going to Church in the morning, blue laws to regulate activity and family gatherings, but it was not set aside for God's glory and man's good, with intent and purpose.

Shortly after my conversion, the Lord placed me in a Reformed Baptist Church that kept a Christian Sabbath. I learned much from the example of one deacon in particular. He was qualified for the office to which his wife and brethren testified. He often invited others into his home, who were alone on Sabbath and it was the sweetest fellowship. The order of his imperfect household (like all households) was imitated by all who were blessed by their example. Real people, whose head of household loved the Lord and his people. His wife honored and obeyed him and the children honored their parents. Perfect? No. A worthy example of Christian charity? Yes, one I'll never forget.

In later years with my Westminster Presbyterian brethren, I found the same hospitality, good order in family and godly example. Raised up in the Lord, by the Lord to his standard. Isa.59:19
I still long for it in my house, so to be more and more conformed to so Good a Master. Psalm 16:1-6
